Molex in Lisle, Illinois is seeking a Mechanical Test Technician for the Engineering Test Lab. You will perform mechanical testing, assemble fixtures, operate test equipment, and analyze results to support product development.

The role requires an Associate’s Degree in a lab-related field and 1+ years’ experience. Familiarity with force testing, Python, PLCs, and data analysis will help you excel in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent laboratory experience.
  • 1+ years' laboratory experience.
  • Experience with force test equipment, load frames, and load cells.
  • Familiarity with Python and PLC coding.
  • Ability to analyze data and perform root-cause analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Execute mechanical tests per specs and industry requirements.
  • Assemble fixtures and use hand/power tools.
  • Operate light manufacturing and shop equipment.
  • Work with basic electronics components and methods.
  • Use 3D modeling and share fixtures for manufacturing methods.
  • Analyze test results and perform data-driven conclusions.
  • Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis.
  • Evaluate performance of terminals, connectors and modules under mechanical conditions.
  • Operate automated mechanical force test equipment.
  • Design mechanical test fixtures and coordinate with Model Shop or vendors.
  • Perform tests such as Connector Mate/Unmate, Terminal Insertion/Extraction, Normal Force, Durability, etc.
  • Collaborate with project leaders to meet deliverables.
  • Create technical writing and best practice documentation.
  • Maintain lab and equipment; schedule calibration as required.
  • Program PLC and Arduino control systems for low-volume automation.

Molex is now hiring for a Mechanical Test Technician for the Engineering Test Lab in Lisle, Illinois with a passion and excitement for contributing to product development testing and support. The successful candidate will work well in a collaborative environment to provide quality, timely results on various interconnect solutions to our globally diverse Engineering team.

What You Will Do
  • Execute tasks involving various mechanical tests in accordance with industry, customer, and/or internal specifications.
  • Use basic hand and power tools to assemble and adapt various mechanisms, fixtures and products.
  • Use light manufacturing and shop equipment.
  • Work with basic electronics components and methods such as hook up wire, wire stripping, crimping soldering, multimeter.
  • Use 3D modeling and file export and sharing for the purpose of presentation and manufacturing methods.
  • Complete product evaluation and performance analysis using test results and statistical analysis.
  • Troubleshoot and root cause failure analysis.
  • Read and challenge task assignments to evaluate performance and reliability of terminals, connectors, and module level products/solutions under exposure to mechanical conditions.
  • Operate automated mechanical force test equipment.
  • Design mechanical test fixtures and work with the Model Shop and or vendors for fixture manufacturing.
  • Perform various mechanical tests including, but not limited to: Connector Mate/Unmate, Terminal Insertion/Extraction, Normal Force, Durability, cable pull, Linear Cycling, and Cable Flex.
  • Work closely with various project leaders to ensure efficient and timely project deliverables to customers.
  • Technical writing and best practice documentation creation
  • Maintenance of the lab and the equipment along with scheduling calibration as required.
  • Program low level PLC and Arduino control systems for low volume automation.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Engineering Science, or equivalent work experience in a laboratory environment or related field
  • 1+ years’ work experience in a laboratory environment or related field
  • Experience with force test equipment, load frames, and load cells
  • Possess critical thinking and analytical ability to develop conclusions from complex data including multiple interactions
  • Ability to manage time and workload to meet project deadlines
  • Familiarity with database structures and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with python and PLC coding to communicate and control various equipment.
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or Engineering Science
  • Experience with Instron force test equipment and Bluehill Universal software
  • Experience with Mechanical Cycle Testing (Linear and/or Cable Flex)
  • Experience using robotic systems (Steward Platforms) in six degrees of freedom.
  • Experience testing electrical interconnect systems, including data analysis, and troubleshooting to aid in root cause failure analysis

For this role, we anticipate paying $50,000 - $80,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
