Job summary

Molex is seeking an Automation Technician on our Crimping team to support product development by producing, inspecting, and documenting prototype leads and validation samples for testing and engineering evaluations.

You will leverage your mechanical aptitude and measurement expertise to ensure samples meet quality and dimensional requirements before release to internal customers and engineering teams. This role also involves collaboration and continuous improvement of processes.

Qualifications

  • Experience operating manufacturing or lab equipment.
  • Experience using precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, comparators, or microscopes.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and production docs.
  • Understanding dimensional measurement and tolerances.
  • Document measurements and observations accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, adjust, and troubleshoot crimping machines and related tooling.
  • Produce prototype leads and validation parts meeting specs.
  • Use precision inspection equipment to verify measurements.
  • Read drawings and setup sheets to ensure correct sample production.
  • Record measurement results and document conformance.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to keep equipment reliable.
  • Collaborate with engineering and internal customers to communicate status.
  • Identify improvement opportunities to reduce waste and improve efficiency.

Job description

As an Automation Technician on our Crimping team, you will support product development by producing, inspecting, and documenting prototype leads and validation samples used for testing and engineering evaluations. In this role, you will leverage your mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and measurement expertise to ensure prototype samples meet quality, dimensional, and performance requirements before being released to internal customers and engineering teams.

What You Will Do
  • Set up, operate, adjust, and troubleshoot automated and semi-automated crimping machines, wire-processing equipment, applicators, and related tooling
  • Produce prototype leads, crimped samples, and validation parts that meet customer requirements, engineering specifications, and quality standards
  • Utilize precision inspection and measurement equipment including calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, microscopes, pneumatic crimp calipers, and pull-force testing equipment
  • Read and interpret drawings, specifications, setup sheets, tooling specifications, customer requests, and work instructions to ensure accurate sample production
  • Verify product conformance through dimensional inspections, visual evaluations, and documentation of measurement results
  • Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, inspection, and basic maintenance to support equipment reliability and minimize downtime
  • Collaborate with engineering and internal customers to communicate project status, resolve material or process issues, and share measurement findings
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and enhance process consistency
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Experience operating manufacturing, laboratory, testing, wire-processing, or crimping equipment
  • Experience using precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, comparators, or microscopes
  • Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings, specifications, work instructions, and production documentation
  • Working knowledge of dimensional measurement and tolerancing concepts
  • Experience accurately documenting measurements, observations, and technical findings
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Experience operating automated or semi-automated crimping equipment
  • Experience with wire-processing equipment, applicators, and crimp tooling
  • Knowledge of electrical connector, terminal, or wire harness manufacturing processes
  • Experience troubleshooting manufacturing equipment and identifying root causes of quality issues
  • Experience participating in continuous improvement or process optimization efforts
