Overview

The role of a D272 Test Supervisor is vital to the success of the day-to-day operations in the Shipyard Test Organization. This position requires a high level of technical knowledge, responsibility, and leadership, as it involves testing and certifying a Nuclear Powered Submarine while ensuring tester safety. Shipyard Test is a learning organization grounded in nuclear watchstanding principles that uphold our STO Pillars. Leadership Skillset:
  • Provide daily mentorship to both new and experienced Test Directors.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all policies, test procedures, CONOPs initiatives, and Test Manager Directives.
  • Achieve and maintain necessary qualifications: Work Controls, 6010, S&EP, NNSTE.
  • Take ownership of Hull, Propulsion & Auxiliary, Steam & Electric Plant, and Hull, Mechanical & Electrical Test Forms through daily data review, partial closeout to Key Event, and final certification.
  • Manage time effectively to include attendance at Start-up meetings, shift turnovers, and weekend coverage when required.
  • Promote employee engagement by valuing team members' ideas, contributions, and dedication to delivering quality to the US NAVY.
  • Evaluate personnel performance and recommend advancements, training, or disciplinary actions as needed.
Planning, Preparation, and Execution duties:
  • Plan Operations Worklist (OWL) 24 hours prior to execution.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Chief Test Engineer and Chief Test Engineer to plan testing within a 3-week window.
  • Coordinate with Ships Force, Nuclear Test, and Trade General Foreman for interdepartmental support.
  • Conduct daily reviews of liabilities and resolve issues along critical and controlling paths.
  • Review and authorize necessary tagouts for testing and RIPOUT work.
  • Ensure test direct training is current and meets all testing requirements.
  • Complete all briefings to train, brief, and certify team members for deckplate execution.
  • Supervise test technicians' activities on the ship.
  • Ensure compliance with all Electric Boat policies and procedures.
  • Maintain detailed logs of all work and test interruptions.
  • Review Ripout retest and Test Form data before signing off on work completion.
  • Verify labor charges for accuracy prior to shift end.
  • Progress work orders in OWL with concurrence from ACTE/CTE.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of relevant mechanical or shipyard testing experience, or equivalent US Navy operational experience.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Post-secondary education.
  • Proven ability to coordinate complex projects within a team environment.
  • 6+ years of US Navy experience.
