Job summary

Nebraska Public Power District is seeking a Mechanical Technician to perform maintenance on station equipment, including mobile equipment and railroad spur tracks, at Gerald Gentleman Station in Sutherland, NE.

The position requires an associate degree in mechanical discipline or related field and three years of industrial mechanic experience, or equivalent military training and experience, or a high school diploma with extensive relevant experience or a mechanical apprenticeship.

Qualifications

• Two-year associate degree in mechanical discipline or related field and three years of experience as a Mechanic in an industrial setting.
• Equivalent military training and three years of experience as a Mechanic in an industrial setting.
• High school diploma/GED and either: five years of experience as a Mechanic, or completion of a mechanical apprentice program, or other relevant demonstrated experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical maintenance of station equipment, including mobile equipment and railroad spur tracks.
• Maintain and repair mechanical equipment, including new installations and modifications.
• Maintain shop equipment, tools, test equipment, and facilities in a clean, operable condition and professional appearance.
• Provide training to maintain qualifications as a Mechanical Technician and to train others on-the-job or formally.
• Provide technical direction and lead a work crew of full-time or contract employees as needed.
• Investigate and troubleshoot failures/deficiencies to improve station reliability.
• Collaborate with other departments and vendors to ensure successful completion of maintenance tasks.

Education, Training and Experience

Incumbent must be recommended based on the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) results.

Two-year associates degree in mechanical discipline or related fieldand threeyears of experience as a Mechanic in an industrial setting.

OR

Equivalent military trainingand threeyears of experience as a Mechanic in an industrial setting.

OR

High school diploma/General Education Development (GED) and either: 1) a minimum of fiveyears of experience as a Mechanic in an industrial setting, or 2) completion of a mechanical apprentice program, or 3) other work experience or demonstrated performance indicating that the applicant has the skills and ability to perform the required duties of the position.

Maintain station equipment, including mobile equipment and railroad spur tracks, through performance of preventative, predictive, andcorrective maintenance activities.

Complete repairs, new installations, and modifications of mechanical equipment.

Maintain shop equipment, tools, test equipment, and facilities in a clean, operable condition and professional appearance.

Participate in training to maintain qualifications as a Mechanical Technician and train others through on-the-job or formal methods.

Provide technical direction and/or lead a work crew of full-time or part-time employees, or contract employees as necessary.Depending upon experience and capability, this position could provide technical direction for other employees on a regular basis.

Maintain and improve station reliability by investigating and troubleshooting failures/deficiencies of plant equipment.Partner with other departments, vendors, etc., as needed to ensure successful completion of this responsibility.

Continually improve the quality of mechanical maintenance processes through feedback to teammates, supervision, and other departments.

Accountable for other duties as assigned.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth.In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

Pay Grade - 13 Hourly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $41.91 - $52.39

Travel Required: Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.

Retirement Savings

NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date.
