Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, is seeking a skilled trades professional to lay out, fit, align, and assemble prefabricated components prior to welding, soldering, brazing, or bonding operations. The role requires precise fitting and machining to tight tolerances and adherence to quality control procedures.

Responsibilities include setting up layouts, selecting equipment, and preparing materials for welding.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and 5 years related experience.
• Apprentice graduate/ Associate's Degree in relevant discipline and 3 years of related experience.
• May require certification.

Responsibilities

• Lays out, fits, aligns, and assembles prefabricated cast and forged components prior to welding, soldering, brazing, or bonding operations.
• Performs fitting and machining operations such as straighten, grind, burr, drill, ream, and countersink to close tolerances.
• Selects equipment, sets up layouts, and prepares materials for welding per general instructions.
• Monitors and verifies quality in accordance with process control procedures.
