Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks a Mechanical Technician to support the MDE Mechanical Team in maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of accelerator mechanical systems, magnets and support structures. You will aid in beamline alignment, assemble/disassemble components, and maintain spares and maintenance records.
The role requires teamwork, strong problem-solving, and the ability to work in radiation areas while following ALARA principles.
This position is for technician support to the Mechanical Design Engineering (MDE) group's Mechanical Team. This team is seeking a motivated mechanical technician to support LANSCE accelerator maintenance and upgrade operations. Successful candidates will also support these maintenance and upgrade operations in the field as needed. Responsibilities of the MDE Mechanical Team include but are not limited to troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment, electro-mechanical equipment, and operation of general shop tools and equipment. The team supports custom fabrications and provides engineering solutions to complex problems. The team and team members must multi-task to complete work for a variety of projects, order spare parts, maintain an on-line spares inventory and a maintenance database.
The Mechanical Team also provides expert level support for crane, forklift and Mechanical Material Handling (MMH) operations around the site and laboratory. All members will be LANL qualified to perform crane and forklift operations.
The successful candidate will join a team of technicians engaged in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of LANSCE accelerator mechanical systems. This includes magnets, critical components, and structural elements. The team is also responsible for accelerator beamline alignments and tracking. The activities of this team extend beyond the accelerator to the support of other projects requiring assemblies and dis-assemblies.
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the successful candidate will need to provide demonstrated experience in alignment metrology. Skills working with Laser Alignment and Tracking systems and global reference systems are needed. Understanding of Reference Point Systems and Best-fit Alignment techniques is necessary.
Associates degree in electromechanical/mechanical or vacuum technology and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
Position requires an Associates' Degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. (Laser Tracker Training, Portable and 3D software Training)

The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
