Onto Innovation strives to optimize customers’ critical path of progress by making them smarter, faster and more efficient.**Job Summary & Responsibilities**This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-visibility program while gaining hands-on experience with **mechanical systems, substrate handling components, and system-level troubleshooting** used in advanced manufacturing equipment.The Mechanical Systems Engineer Intern will work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to support system design, testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.* Assist in troubleshooting electromechanical systems under the guidance of senior engineers, identifying root causes and supporting corrective actions.* Help reduce production labor, cycle time, and material cost through mechanical design improvements and process optimization.* Read, understand, and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and system-level documentation, recommending and implementing updates as needed.* Use diagnostic and measurement tools (e.g., calipers, torque tools, sensors, multimeters, oscilloscopes) to analyze mechanical and mechatronic system performance.* Collaborate with manufacturing, electrical, and systems engineering teams to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and utilization.* Review End-of-Life (EOL) components and support redesign efforts using currently available mechanical or electromechanical components.* Assist in improving system documentation, design standards, and test procedures.* Document test results, troubleshooting steps, design changes, and recommendations to support future improvements and product scalability.**Qualifications*** Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
