Role Description
The Mechanical Systems Design Engineer isresponsible for the design, analysis, and integration of aircraft mechanicalsystems supporting VIP aircraft interior completion and avionics modificationprograms. This role collaborates with structural engineering, avionicsengineering, certification, and production teams to develop installationdesigns and engineering instructions required for aircraft modifications.This position requires strong technicalproblem-solving capabilities, knowledge of aircraft mechanical systems, and theability to support engineering activities throughout the design, certification,and production phases of aircraft completion projects.
Essential Job Functions
·Develop mechanical system designs andperform engineering analysis in support of VIP aircraft interior completion andavionics modification programs.
·Create and maintain engineering drawings,design documentation, and system reports required to support STC developmentand aircraft modification programs.
·Develop mechanical system modificationconcepts and prepare installation work instructions, engineering orders (EOs),and supporting procedures.
·Support the design and integration ofaircraft utility systems including air conditioning, ventilation, equipmentcooling, fire and smoke detection, potable water, gray water, vacuum wastesystems, oxygen, and bleed air systems.
·Review and analyze Service Bulletins (SBs),Airworthiness Directives (ADs), and other technical data, identifying potentialimpacts to aircraft modification programs.
·Identify discrepancies or conflicts withinengineering drawings and technical documentation and develop correctiveactions.
·Apply established engineering principles,company procedures, and regulatory guidance to resolve routine and moderatelycomplex technical issues.
·Support the preparation of engineeringsubstantiation documentation required for certification activities.
·Work closely with production andinstallation teams to support engineering questions during aircraftmodification and completion activities.
·Maintain awareness of FAA regulations andcertification requirements, ensuring engineering work complies with applicableFARs, ADs, and manufacturer requirements.
·Contribute to the continuous improvement ofengineering processes, documentation standards, and design practices.
·Continue professional development inaircraft mechanical systems engineering and certification practices.
·Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Education andExperience
·Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering,Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Systems Engineering, or a relateddiscipline.
·Minimum 5 years of experience in aircraftmechanical systems design, aerospace engineering, or aircraft modificationengineering.
·Experience supporting aircraft modification,STC development, or aircraft completion programs preferred.
·Familiarity with FAA certification processesand aircraft regulatory compliance requirements.
·Experience reviewing aircraft technicaldocumentation including maintenance manuals, service bulletins, andairworthiness directives.
Required Skills and Abilities
·Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD)tools; SolidWorks preferred.
·Working knowledge of aircraft mechanicalsystems including environmental control, plumbing, oxygen, and utility systems.
·Understanding of aerospace engineeringdocumentation standards and drawing practices.
·Ability to interpret engineering drawings,aircraft technical manuals, and certification documentation.
·Strong written and verbal communicationskills with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts.
·Strong analytical and problem-solving skillsin complex engineering environments.
·Excellent organizational and time-managementskills with the ability to manage multiple engineering tasks simultaneously.
·Ability to work collaboratively withengineering, production, quality, and certification teams.
Work Environment
This position is based in an aircraft hangarenvironment and may involve:
·Exposure to varying temperatures and weatherconditions
·Loud noise levels
·Use of heavy machinery and specialized tools
·Potential contact with chemicals orhazardous materials
