Job summary

System One in Corvallis, OR is seeking a Mechanical System Design Engineer to lead design, inspection, and testing of NSSS components, ensuring compliance with industry and regulatory standards. You will review plant systems, prepare engineering documents, and mentor junior engineers.

You will manage vendor activities, interface with licensing authorities, and coordinate cross-disciplinary teams to optimize designs and meet project goals. Travel as needed and uphold safety and quality practices.

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering required; Mechanical preferred.
  • PE license in Mechanical or Nuclear preferred but not required.
  • 10+ years nuclear experience with strong writing and communication.
  • Experience managing multi-phase projects with stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of ASME Codes, 10 CFR 50, and NQA-1 advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical engineering assignments related to design, inspection, and testing of NSSS components per industry standards.
  • Review and evaluate plant systems to ensure design, performance, inspection, and testing requirements are met.
  • Prepare, check, and review engineering reports, specifications, drawings, calculations, and other design documents.
  • Lead and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on complex design tasks, proposing innovative solutions.
  • Manage vendor design activities for NSSS components, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Interpret project scope and develop design alternatives as needed.
  • Serve as test program sponsor for relevant testing scopes.
  • Interface with licensing authorities to support regulatory compliance domestically and internationally.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers in NSSS design practices.
  • Coordinate with colleagues across disciplines to resolve issues and optimize design processes.
  • Maintain and develop training and qualifications aligned with industry standards.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally, creating clear documentation and presentations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support project goals.

Requirements
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical).
  • Professional engineer license (P.E.) in Mechanical or Nuclear is preferred but not required.
  • At least 10 years of relevant nuclear experience, with strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Experience managing complex projects with multiple phases and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of ASME Codes and Standards, 10 CFR 50, and nuclear utility or plant experience is advantageous.
  • Experience with NSSS component design, inspection, and testing.
  • Understanding of nuclear licensing processes, especially within the domestic sector.
  • Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
  • Ability to learn rapidly, adapt to changing environments, and travel as needed.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Adherence to high standards of safety and quality assurance, including 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1.
