Job summary

HCLTech is seeking a Mechanical Supplier Quality Engineer in Fremont, CA to evaluate complex data center rack designs, drive rack/cooling system decisions, and manage suppliers. The role emphasizes thermal/mechanical modeling, testing, and ensuring reliability.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, perform audits, write test plans, and lead supplier quality initiatives across offshore and domestic manufacturers, with a focus on manufacturability and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Thermal/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 10+ years of Thermal/Mechanical engineering experience.
  • Proven track record managing suppliers for racks or similar systems.
  • Understanding of shock, vibration, and reliability tests for data center equipment.
  • Experience coordinating with offshore manufacturers on quality issues.
  • Familiarity with QMS and FMEA.
  • Proficient in thermal/mechanical modeling with MCAD tools.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct quality audits and risk assessments for mechanical components and rack systems.
  • Write detailed test plans for mechanical/thermal solutions.
  • Manage mechanical suppliers for data center rack systems.
  • Oversee suppliers testing advanced mechanical/thermal solutions for data centers.
  • Evaluate and optimize cooling solutions for data center environments.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with peers, management, and vendors.
  • Exercise independent judgment within policy to achieve objectives.

Role/Responsibilities
  • The Thermal/Mechanical Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for evaluating complex
  • product designs across the data center rack solution systems. This encompasses identifying,
  • selecting, simulating, and testing both commercial and in-house developed advanced
  • thermal/mechanical design solutions, including thermal performance, manufacturability,
  • serviceability, and reliability of data center racks and cooling systems.
  • Leveraging a deep technical engineering expertise in thermal and mechanical engineering,
  • Candidates will drive rack/cooling system level decisions, testing, and implementation.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct quality audits and risk assessments for mechanical components and rack systems
  • Write detailed test plans for mechanical/thermal solutions
  • Manage mechanical suppliers that manufacture data center rack systems
  • Manage suppliers that manufacture and test advanced mechanical/thermal solutions operated in data center environments.
  • Evaluate and optimize advanced mechanical/thermal cooling solutions for data center environments
  • Work in a cross-functional collaborative environment, closely interfacing with peers, management, and external vendors
  • Exercise significant independent judgment within broadly defined policies and practices to determine the best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of experience in Thermal/Mechanical
  • Engineering field or in a related area
  • Professional experience and proven track record of managing suppliers working on racks and/or similar mechanical systems
  • Understanding of shock/vibration and other compliance and reliability tests for data center mechanical equipment
  • Ability to work with offshore manufacturers to manage quality issues and process changes
  • Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS), supplier quality performance metrics, or failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA)
  • Proficient in designing thermal/mechanical models using MCAD software tools
  • Background in heat transfer and mechanical/thermal design including ability to quickly
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range Minimum: $50.38 per hour

Pay Range Maximum: $70.00 per hour

Compensation and Benefits

A candidate’s pay within the range will depend on their work location, skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law. This role may also be eligible for performance-based bonuses subject to company policies. In addition, this role is eligible for the following benefits subject to company policies:
