Job summary

Atlantic Constructors is seeking a Mechanical Superintendent to lead day-to-day activities on commercial construction projects. You will supervise crews, coordinate trades, and ensure safety, quality, and scheduling align with drawings and specs.

The role requires 7+ years in supervisory roles, strong communication, OSHA 30 and CPR, and ability to manage costs and facilitating collaboration with engineering, estimating, and project teams.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in General Foreman/General Superintendent roles or equivalent.
• Experience supervising large crews (20+).
• Knowledge of man-hour reports, job cost reports, workforce planning and estimating.
• Strong verbal and written communication; effective with clients and colleagues.
• OSHA 30 certification and CPR.
• Ability to read drawings (isometric/orthographic) and contract documents.
• Ability to multi-task with minimal supervision and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Supervise field crews and subcontractors; determine construction methods, manpower, materials, and scheduling.
• Coordinate multi-trade activities and other departments; ensure drawings/specs compliance.
• Perform a wide range of skilled construction tasks; liaise with engineering, estimating, and project teams.

Summary/Objective:

The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day activities of crews on assigned commercial construction projects. Provides guidance and direction to crews in budgeting and scheduling. Ensures job quality and customer satisfaction is maintained at every project stage. Strong relationship building skills with clients, customers, and vendors to cultivate a positive work environment. In addition to supervisory responsibility, this position is that of a working superintendent, responsible for directly performing a wide range of skilled construction tasks.

Essential Functions:

• Supervises field crew, subcontractor and craft activities, including determining method of construction, manpower levels, material quantities equipment, mechanical and plumbing sources, scheduling and documentation
• Coordinates work of different crafts, company departments, and/or other contractors
• Performs a wide range of skilled construction tasks
• Acts as liaison with engineering, estimating, and project teams, to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and scheduling is being met
• Coordinates with other departments (i.e., Quality Control and Engineering) to ensure all required materials and equipment, inspections, and support craft activities
• Resolves problems in a variety of construction issues, including productivity monitoring, craft compliance with project safety program requirements; documenting and implementing corrective action
• Performs other duties as assigned

Required:

• 7+ years previous experience as a General Foreman, General Superintendent and/or equivalent combination of vocational training and experience
• Ability to successfully supervise large crew (20+)
• Prior experience supervising large teams
• Previous knowledge of man hour reports, job cost reports, workforce planning and estimating
• Advanced understanding of construction cost control, forecasting and setting goals
• Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work across varied disciplines
• Ability to effectively present information to customers, clients and colleagues
• OSHA 30 and CPR
• Demonstrated knowledge of, reading, interpreting and working to:
  • Design drawings (isometric and orthographic), design guides, specifications
  • Support Drawings and specifications
  • Contract documents and site coordination of subcontractors
• Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail, and demonstrate problem-solving skills
• Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
• Must be available to report to multiple job sites as assigned

Work Environment:

• May work in varying temperatures; both inside and outside, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold, and dampness
• May work in areas with exposure to moderate/high noise levels
• May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including dust
• May be required to work in confined spaces or from high heights

Physical Demands:

• This role routinely uses construction equipment such as heavy machinery, hand and power tools
• While performing duties of the job the employee may work aloft, climb, bend, pull, reach overhead, stand/walk for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms
• Must be able to correctly identify all colors of a color-coded cable/wires and see close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus

Travel:

• May require travel (typically not overnight)

Preferred:

• 10 years' experience in a heavy mechanical construction environment as Superintendent
• Prior military experience
• HS diploma or GED equivalent
