Job summary

Atlantic Constructors, Inc. in the Mid-Atlantic region seeks a Mechanical Superintendent to lead day-to-day activities on commercial construction sites.

You will supervise field crews, coordinate with subcontractors, and ensure adherence to drawings, specifications and schedules while maintaining high quality and customer satisfaction. This working superintendent role requires strong communication, problem-solving, and the ability to manage large teams (20+).

Qualifications

7+ years experience as a General Foreman/Superintendent or equivalent.
Ability to supervise large crews (20+).
Experience with man hour, job cost reporting and estimating.
Strong cost control and forecasting knowledge.
OSHA 30 and CPR certification.
Excellent written and verbal communication; able to present to customers and teams.

Responsibilities

Supervise field crew, subcontractors and craft activities and schedule work.
Coordinate with engineering, estimating and project teams to follow drawings and specs.
Directly perform a range of skilled construction tasks as needed.
Ensure safety, quality, and adherence to project timelines; troubleshoot issues.

Summary/Objective

The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day activities of crews on assigned commercial construction projects. Provides guidance and direction to crews in budgeting and scheduling. Ensures job quality and customer satisfaction is maintained at every project stage. Strong relationship building skills with clients, customers, and vendors to cultivate a positive work environment. In addition to supervisory responsibility, this position is that of a working superintendent, responsible for directly performing a wide range of skilled construction tasks.

Essential Functions

Supervises field crew, subcontractor and craft activities, including determining method of construction, manpower levels, material quantities equipment, mechanical and plumbing sources, scheduling and documentation
Coordinates work of different crafts, company departments, and/or other contractors
Performs a wide range of skilled construction tasks
Acts as liaison with engineering, estimating, and project teams, to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and scheduling is being met
Coordinates with other departments (i.e., Quality Control and Engineering) to ensure all required materials and equipment, inspections, and support craft activities
Resolves problems in a variety of construction issues, including productivity monitoring, craft compliance with project safety program requirements; documenting and implementing corrective action
Performs other duties as assigned

7+ years previous experience as a General Foreman, General Superintendent and/or equivalent combination of vocational training and experience
Ability to successfully supervise large crew (20+)
Prior experience supervising large teams
Previous knowledge of man hour reports, job cost reports, workforce planning and estimating
Advanced understanding of construction cost control, forecasting and setting goals
Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work across varied disciplines
Ability to effectively present information to customers, clients and colleagues
OSHA 30 and CPR
Demonstrated knowledge of, reading, interpreting and working to:
- Design drawings (isometric and orthographic), design guides, specifications
- Support Drawings and specifications
- Contract documents and site coordination of subcontractors
- Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail, and demonstrate problem-solving skills
- Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
- Must be available to report to multiple job sites as assigned

Work Environment

The work environment and physical demands required would be representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, and may include, but is not limited to the following:

May work in varying temperatures; both inside and outside, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold, and dampness
May work in areas with exposure to moderate/high noise levels
May work in areas with exposure to fumes or airborne particles including dust
May be required to work in confined spaces or from high heights

Physical Demands

This role routinely uses construction equipment such as heavy machinery, hand and power tools
While performing duties of the job the employee may work aloft, climb, bend, pull, reach overhead, stand/walk for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.
Frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms
Must be able to correctly identify all colors of a color-coded cable/wires and see close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus
