Job summary

Reynolds American is seeking a Mechanical Specialist in Winston-Salem, NC to maintain high-speed tobacco manufacturing equipment and lead preventive maintenance. The role involves complex repairs, instrumenting machine health, and documenting work in SAP/CMMS, with safety and regulatory focus.

The ideal candidate has a 2-year degree or certification in industrial systems or a military equivalent, strong computer skills, and hands-on experience with manufacturing MES systems.

Responsibilities

• Operates high-speed tobacco cigarette manufacturing equipment and handles loading materials up to 50 lbs, ensuring quality, output, waste control and regulatory compliance.
• Performs mechanical repairs and adjustments to maintain machine health and overall equipment effectiveness.
• Diagnose complex mechanical defects or breakdowns; perform corrective maintenance and update machine records in SAP/CMMS.
• Execute high-level preventive maintenance on multiple technologies following manuals and work instructions at scheduled intervals.
• Install and commission manufacturing and packaging equipment and perform complex interventions with guidance to other technicians.

REYNOLDS AMERICAN has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Specialist in Winston‑Salem, NC

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Operates high speed tobacco cigarette manufacturing equipment (including loading materials weighing up to 50lbs) and is responsible for maintenance, product quality, output, waste and regulatory compliance.

• Makes mechanical repairs and adjustments to the equipment and is responsible for machine health and overall equipment effectiveness.

• Diagnose complex mechanical defects or breakdowns and perform corrective maintenance, respond to and message displays, and adjust machines accordingly.Create machine repair records in SAP/CMMS.

• Performs high level preventive maintenance on multiple technologies and subassemblies using applicable equipment manuals and work instructions on regularly scheduled intervals.

• Make equipment standard adjustments, timings, settings, alignments, and replacement of parts.

• Install and commission manufacturing and packaging equipment.

• Perform complex mechanical interventions on equipment such as format changes and equipment modifications, while guiding and teaching other technical personnel

• Perform all quality checks and tests as described in standard work instructions.

• Order and verify materials, verify production specifications, order parts, enter work history, monitor and respond to KPI data prompts, set up machine for various products through direct interaction with advanced Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Parts Ordering System(s) and Document Management System, and other computer applications as appropriate.

• Work at height up to 10 feet from the ground

What are we looking for?

• Experience working in a tobacco cigarette manufacturing or supporting environment with mechanical/electrical mechanical capability to perform high level mechanical interventions

• Computer Skills (including Microsoft Systems)

• WorkKeys – Applied Math (Level 4), Workplace Documents (Level 5) Graphics Literacy (Level 4)

• Operate industrial vehicles and powered lifts

Interested candidates must have or complete one of the following:

• Hold a minimum 2-year degree or certification in industrial systems, mechanical technology, machine operator certification or a related field or military equivalent.

• Complete mechanical reasoning and aptitude testing in lieu of the educational/experience requirement.

Beneficial

• Industrial Systems Technology – A.A.S Or Mechanical Engineering Technology – A.A.S. Or Mechatronics Engineering Technology – A.A.S. Or A.A.S degree in a related field Or military equivalent. (not required)

• SAP/CMMS application skills.

• Understanding of and ability to perform root cause analysis

• Effective communication skills, both written and oral, at all levels within the organization and with external vendors
