Job summary

Matrix Service Company is seeking a Mechanical Senior Engineer I to lead design and analysis for diverse projects from inception to construction. The role acts as a discipline lead, coordinating internal and external resources to deliver complete project documents and ensure safety and quality.

Qualified candidates will have a BS in Engineering with 6+ years in industrial piping, proficiency in PFDs/P&IDs, and experience with CAESAR II/AutoPipe/AutoCAD. PE preferred.

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering required; MS degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of PFDs & P&IDs and piping equipment packages.

Job Summary

The Mechanical Senior Engineer I is responsible for performing expert level design and analysis work as directed to support various projects. The Senior Engineer I will be part of a project team from inception through construction completion. The role will act as a discipline lead for projects, managing internal and external resources as assigned/required.

Essential Functions
  • Actively supports the Company's commitment to safety and its "Core Values."

  • Applies broad knowledge of industrial piping design principles and practices.
  • Creates or modifies equipment specifications, communicate with equipment suppliers, and technically evaluate critical pieces and packages of industrial equipment.
  • Independently evaluates, selects and adapts standard techniques, procedures and criteria.
  • Acquires general knowledge of principles, and practices of related fields, and ability to function on multidisciplinary teams.
  • Works on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects.
  • Designs a complete project or system and prepares complete project documents.
  • Coordinates tasks with engineers, designers and administrative staff.
  • Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of engineering work.
  • Prepares and manages scope, budget and schedule for projects or assignments; this includes any discipline internal or external resources assigned to support their projects are within scope, budget and schedule. Assists with developing proposals and hours estimates to provide professional services or engineering support.
  • Checks entire job for constructability, interferences, operational safety, constructability and overall quality assurance.
  • Communicates a strong sense of urgency about solving problems and getting work done.
  • Receives general direction on key objectives.
  • Receives guidance when necessary on unconventional or complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
  • Cooperates with other team members; interacts with individuals at all organizational levels in professional manner, including PM, client, customers, officials, contractors and others.
  • Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments
  • Performs other related duties, as required or directed.
Qualifications
  • BS in Engineering required; MS degree preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
  • 6+ years related engineering experience with industrial equipment and industrial piping systems.
  • Strong skill set in understanding PFD's and P&ID's; understanding of industrial equipment and equipment packages, and knowledge of selection of valves and other piping specialty components is required.
  • Knowledge of PHMSA standards, recommended practices and design experience in NFPA 59A, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, and ASME Section VIII is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic process design and stress analyses including mechanical designs of supports, guides, anchors, hangers strongly preferred.
  • Ability to understand client specifications, procurement, commissioning and start-up standards, documentation, practices, vendor data approvals, etc., strongly preferred.
  • Experience using standard computer programs for design such as CAESAR II, AutoPipe, AutoCAD, , etc., is preferred.
  • Cooperates with other team members; interacts with individuals at all organizational levels in professional manner.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously under time sensitive deadlines.
  • Exhibits excellent listening, oral and written skills; ability to prepare and make project related presentations to clients is desirable.
  • Demonstratives a proactive approach and consistently positive demeanor.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Occasional overtime and travel may be required.
