Job Description - Mechanical Engineering Section Manager (182227)

HDR is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Section Manager for our Florida Building Engineering Services Team in Orlando, Florida. This individual will be responsible for managing the group, leading technical services, coordinating with other disciplines, and engaging with clients. They will oversee staff development, project delivery, and ensure compliance with company policies. The role involves managing workload across HDR's design centers, particularly with teams in Charlotte, NC, and Atlanta, GA, to foster engagement and cross-training.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Manage and develop a design production team for HVAC and Plumbing work.
  • Oversee workflow, staff mentoring, forecasting, quality control, and team environment.
  • Act as a technical lead on projects, coordinating with other disciplines and reviewing construction documents and shop drawings.
  • Engage with clients and internal stakeholders, including project managers and leadership.
  • Implement and monitor company policies.
  • Support development of HDR's technical design services.
  • Prepare mechanical proposals, scope, and cost estimates.
  • Provide expertise in HVAC and Plumbing design for various markets.
  • Develop construction drawings and review junior staff work.
  • Travel regionally or nationally as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • At least 10 years of management experience.
  • 15+ years of mechanical design experience.
  • Experience with mechanical/HVAC design of buildings and facilities.
  • PE license.
  • Strong planning, leadership, and mentoring skills.
  • Experience with Revit and designing water/wastewater facilities, healthcare, or data centers.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional registration or license may be required.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
