Job summary

City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Enterprise Services, Golf Courses Division, is seeking a journey-level Mechanical Repairer to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment used on the Ted Makalena Golf Course in Waipahu. You will perform preventive maintenance, inspect motors and engines, order parts, keep records, and ensure shop safety according to OSHA/HIOSH.

Weekend/holiday work may be required; valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the practices, tools, equipment and materials used in repairing mechanical equipment.
• Knowledge of the functions and operating principles of electric motors, gasoline and diesel engines.
• An ability to recognize defects in mechanical equipment and take corrective action.
• An ability to use and maintain hand and power tools used in the mechanical trades.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, inspect, repair and maintain equipment to maintain a golf course (greens/tees/trim mowers, rakers, trimmers, etc.).
• Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance including oil changes, brakes, ignition and electrical systems, and sharpening reels/blades.
• Research parts replacement and submit purchase paperwork; maintain records of work and inventory.
• Operate a vehicle to transport parts, orders, equipment to the golf course and department facilities.
• Maintain shop/work area and equipment according to OSHA/HIOSH regulations and department standards.

Are you a journey-level mechanic?

The Department of Enterprise Services, Golf Courses Division, is hiring for a Mechanical Repairer to troubleshoot, repair and maintain various equipment used to maintain a golf course at the Ted Makalena Golf Course in Waipahu.

What You’ll Do

• Troubleshoot, inspect, repair and maintain various equipment to maintain a golf course such as but not limited to: greens/tees/trim triplex mowers, fairway hydraulic/pull type mowers, rakers, trimmers, utility vehicles; motors; etc.
• Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance on all maintenance equipment including but not limited to changing oil, brakes, ignition system, electrical systems, etc.; sharpening reels/blades/knives; cutting and fabricating metals; etc.
• Research parts replacement and submit paperwork to purchase parts; maintaining records of work completed and inventory.
• Operate a vehicle to transport/haul parts, orders, equipment, etc. to and from the golf course and department facilities.
• Maintain shop/work area and equipment according to OSHA/HIOSH regulations and department standards.

Special Working Requirements

• May be required to work weekends and holidays. Work schedule subject to change based on job and operational requirements.

Experience Requirement

Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to competently perform the journey level skills and duties of this position.

Such experience must have demonstrated:

• Knowledge of the practices, tools, equipment and materials used in repairing mechanical equipment.
• Knowledge of the functions and operating principles of a wide variety of mechanical equipment, including electric motors, gasoline and diesel engines.
• An ability to recognize defects in mechanical equipment and take corrective action.
• An ability to use and maintain hand and power tools used in the mechanical trades.

Examples of Qualifying Experience

automotive mechanic, heavy vehicle/fleet mechanic, generator mechanic, marine engine mechanic, small engine mechanic, utility mechanic, similar experience repairing and maintaining 2 and 4 cycle engines.

License Requirement

Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license, as required. The current vacancy requires a valid automobile/Type 3 driver's license, prior to appointment.
