Job summary

Vanderlande is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer I to support the North American Airport Engineering Department. You will translate drawings into functional systems, manage 3D models, and coordinate with Electrical, Controls, and installation teams.

Primarily based in Marietta with domestic travel up to 33%. The role requires a Mechanical Engineering degree, 5+ years of related experience, and the ability to work autonomously or in a team within a dynamic, internationally oriented

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience (or 8 years for Associate ME/ET).

Responsibilities

  • Translate customer drawings and specifications into a fully functional mechanical system.
  • Optimize functionality from as-sold to a working mechanical design within budget with cross-disciplinary input (Electrical, Controls, etc).
  • 3D modeling of systems and clash detection management; create 2D layouts for customer approval and installation.
  • Perform spatial analysis of clearance envelopes, egress pathways, and forklift aisles.
  • Calculate system and component level parameters (Throughput, motor power, belt pull, etc).
  • Engineer project specifics for non-standard design applications and interfaces.
  • Apply safety regulations and ergonomics; specify mechanical equipment and motor manifests.
  • Document engineering decisions with design plans and installation files; communicate with site supervisors.

Position: Mechanical Project Engineer I

We are looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer I that will support the North American Engineering Airport Department.

Vanderlande’s Airport Engineering Department is responsible for the design, specification, and commissioning of Baggage Handling Systems for our customersthroughout North America. You will be responsible for ensuring the design meets the customer requirements, is coordinated with other trades to minimize conflicts during installation, can be installed with efficiency, and maintain excellent communication with the site team.

Success in this role involves the ability to balance the technical requirements of the role while also having the soft skills to collaborate with and motivate the engineering team. It also involves working closely with stakeholders from other disciplines and other departments to balance priorities, improve processes and satisfy a complex set of goals.Success will require strong technical skills, creativity, strong interpersonal skills, drive, and passion. A successful candidate will demonstrate a keen intuition for when to attempt to solve problems on their own and when to enlist the help of other experienced leaders.

Key Responsibilities:

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Translate customer drawings and specifications into a fully functional mechanical system
  • Optimize the functionality from as-sold to a working mechanical design within the budget in consultation with other disciplines (Electrical, Controls, Supply Chain, Installation, etc.)
  • 3D modeling of systems and subsequent clash detection management
  • Create associated 2Dcustomer approval and installation layout drawings
  • Perform spatial analysis of clearance envelopes, egress pathways andforkliftvehicular aisles
  • Perform system and component level calculations (Throughput, motor power, belt pull, reactive forces to building structure, etc)
  • Engineering of project specials needed for non-standard design applications
  • Engineering of non-standard mechanical interfaces
  • Apply safety regulations and ergonomics
  • Specify the mechanical equipment required, including both Vanderlande manufactured and third party purchased items
  • Create a motor manifest with respect to electrical and controls engineering requirements
  • Document all engineering decisions through design plans,complete and clear installation files, and engineering instructions directed to a site supervisor and installation subcontractor
  • Travel to site as needed to conduct site surveys
  • Support the installation and commissioning both on site, and from the Marietta office
  • Project document control using arights baseddatabase system
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Minimumof 5 years ofrelative work experience(or Associate ME/ET with 8 years related experience)
  • Must be willing and able to travel domestically up to 33% withinternational opportunities
  • Ability to think conceptually (overall system) and translate this into a detailed system design

  • International onboarding travel is required, up to 3 months initially.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Design experience in the Material Handling industry, Airport experience preferred
  • Knowledge of ASME and OSHA regulations
