Job summary

Activ8 Recruitment & Solutions in Memphis, TN is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to design and develop manufacturing conveyor lines for automotive customers. You will create and maintain engineering drawings and collaborate with internal teams to feasibility-test designs. This is a hybrid on-site role with relocation support possible.

Expect travel up to 25% for site supervision and installation. A bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or related field and 3+ years of conveyor experience

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years in heavy-duty conveyor design.
  • Experience with 3D CAD tools (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks).
  • Ability to travel up to 25–50% depending on project needs.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays for deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Design and product development for manufacturing conveyors, including overhead and in-floor designs for automotive customers.
  • Develop and maintain engineering drawings and blueprints; track design changes.
  • Interface with customers regarding design reviews, changes, and feasibility.
  • Create records of design changes and project updates for internal and customer use.
  • Participate in project status meetings with internal departments and customers.
  • Analyze, test, and validate tooling; support on-site installations.
  • Collaborate with electrical/controls engineering teams on projects.
  • Travel to customer sites to supervise control system construction and provide on-site support (~25% travel).

Job description

A global automation systems engineering company in Memphis, TN is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to support their operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering or manufacturing engineering, and will have experience designing heavy-duty automotive conveyor systems for a variety of manufacturing operations (material handling, assembly, paint lines, etc.).

This is a hybrid remote/on-site, full time and direct hire position offering a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package (health/vision/dental insurance, 401k with 3% company match, employee assistance program, and more). Relocation support may be offered if required.

Mechanical Project Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Design and product development for manufacturing conveyor lines, including overhead and in-floor designs, for a variety of automotive customers
  • Develop and maintain engineering drawings and blueprints, tracking design developments and changes as they are added
  • Interface with customers regarding design reviews, potential changes, approval, and manufacturing feasibility
  • Create records of design changes and project updates for internal and customer use
  • Participate in meetings regarding project status with both internal departments and outside customers
  • Responsible for product analysis, testing, and validation on tooling
  • Collaborate with electrical / controls engineering teams on a project basis
  • Travel to customer sites facilities to supervise control system construction and installation, and provide on-site technical support for design modifications and troubleshooting (~25% travel)
Mechanical Project Engineer Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field, OR equivalent level of experience
  • 3+ years' experience (including internships, co-ops, etc.) with heavy-duty conveyor design preferred
  • Experience with 3D CAD (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks)
  • Ability to travel as required (typically 25 – 50%), depending on project needs
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings
  • Able to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required for project deadlines. Comp time may be provided for weekend or holiday work.
