Job summary

Ballinger, an architecture and engineering firm, seeks a Mechanical Engineer with 4+ years of experience to lead HVAC design, coordinate with multiple disciplines, and mentor staff. The role is based in Philadelphia with on-site presence and hybrid work three days a week.

You will interact with clients, produce design reports and specifications, and participate in field visits to ensure project quality from SD through CA phases.

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent; PE Registration preferred.
  • Post graduate degree preferred.
  • 4+ years of related experience in mechanical engineering projects.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor staff within and across disciplines to share knowledge.
  • Lead coordination with all disciplines during design phases.
  • Interface with clients in design presentations for their discipline.
  • Direct and perform HVAC/Mechanical engineering on projects and monitor progress.
  • Create work plans, review schedules, and ensure deadlines.
  • Produce basis of design reports, systems matrices, and preliminary design reports.
  • Prepare specification sections and interface with staff on projects.
  • Draft field site visit reports and model documents.
  • Develop knowledge of Ballinger's project types through engagement with teams.
  • Travel for surveys and field visits as required.

This role is based in our offices in Philadelphia, PA, on-site three (3) days per week.

Position Responsibilities
  • Mentoring of staff both within your discipline and across disciplines in the Mechanical Engineering discipline, with the goal of increasing knowledge sharing and collaborating towards a comprehensive, coordinated set of project documents
  • Interface and lead coordination with all disciplines during the design/coordination phases
  • Interface with the client in design presentations related to their discipline of registration
  • Direct and perform HVAC/Mechanical engineering on projects: maintain work plan and monitor progress of design, detailing, and drawing production throughout design phases to meet deadlines
  • Write work plans and review weekly with all disciplines to confirm schedule is adhered to
  • Produce basis of design reports, systems matrices, and preliminary design reports on projects the position is leading
  • Produce specification sections and Statement of Special Inspections, and interface with specifications staff on projects
  • Produce field site visit reports Draft/model documents
  • Develop knowledge of Ballinger's project types (health care, academic/lab/research, corporate/workspace) through active engagement with project teams and leadership
  • Travel as project requirements dictate for surveys and field/site visits during construction
Technical/Professional Skills
  • Foundational knowledge of contractual and liability issues
  • Foundational knowledge of construction administration process and procedural knowledge

  • Active role in drawing production, including but not limited to picking up redlines, quality assessment of individual work, coordination with other disciplines and coordination reviews and participation in team coordination meetings from SD through CA phases
  • Thorough understanding of discipline's drawing and graphic standards, adherence to standards for quality and consistency in Ballinger's product
  • Strong interpersonal skills, specifically communication, dependability, responsibility, and teamwork
  • Coordination skills, specifically communication, organization, time management, and adaptability
Requirements
  • BS, BEng, or BAE degree in Mechanical Engineering relevant to the particular field of practice or equivalent as determined by the Firm.
  • Post Graduate degree preferred.
  • 4+ years experience required for this opportunity
  • PE Registration

Location and Travel

This role is located in our Philadelphia PA office, with a flexible, hybrid work schedule on-site three (3) days per week. Travel as project requirements dictate for surveys and field/site visits during construction.
