Job description

Mechanical/Plumbing Design Engineer

A growing building systems design team is adding a Mechanical/Plumbing Design Engineer to support a strong project pipeline and continued expansion in the Phoenix market. This is an excellent opportunity for an early to mid-career design professional who wants hands‑on project variety, meaningful visibility with leadership, and a clear path to grow inside a small, high‑activity consulting environment. The right person will join a close-knit team, work across multiple project categories, and build practical experience that can accelerate long‑term career development.

This is a full‑time, onsite opportunity based in North Phoenix. The office operates with a collaborative, results‑focused culture that values accountability, flexibility, and strong team fit. Team members have direct access to ownership and decision‑makers, allowing for faster learning, broader exposure, and less bureaucracy than many larger firms.

This Role Offers:
  • Small, growing team with significant project activity and strong momentum
  • Broad exposure to multiple project types rather than narrow specialization in one market
  • Direct interaction with firm leadership and ownership
  • Clear advancement potential for someone who wants to grow with the business
  • Full‑time onsite setting with standard hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and reasonable flexibility for appointments and family obligations when work is completed
  • Benefits include 100% employee medical coverage, 50% dependent coverage, annual performance‑based bonus opportunities, and year‑end bonus or profit‑sharing potential that has typically been around 10 percent of salary
Focus:
  • Develop mechanical and plumbing design documents for a variety of commercial and specialty building projects
  • Support HVAC and plumbing system layouts, design calculations, equipment selection, and document coordination
  • Produce and revise drawings in Revit, with consideration given to candidates whose experience is stronger in AutoCAD‑backed design environments
  • Contribute to project delivery across multiple markets, helping the team maintain quality and responsiveness during a busy growth phase
  • Coordinate with internal teammates and external project stakeholders to keep design work aligned with project objectives
  • Assist with code‑based design considerations, drawing updates, and general technical documentation
  • Work in an environment that encourages cross‑training, especially for candidates with stronger experience in either mechanical or plumbing systems who want to expand into both
  • Contribute quickly and effectively with a practical, hands‑on approach and limited ramp‑up time
Skill Set:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing Engineering, or a closely related accredited engineering program is required
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship
  • Experience in a consulting or design firm focused on MEP engineering is required
  • Prior exposure to HVAC, mechanical, or plumbing design is required
  • Revit experience is strongly preferred
  • Candidates with strong overall design experience in AutoCAD may also be considered
  • Mechanical or plumbing background is acceptable, with the ability and interest to develop skills across both areas
  • Internship experience or industry experience is preferred for degree holders
  • Candidates without a degree must bring at least 3 years of relevant MEP industry experience
  • Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work well in a small team environment are important for success in this role
