Job description

We are seeking a Mechanical Piping Layout & Coordination Specialist to support the development, coordination, and field implementation of mechanical piping systems. This is not an engineering or designer position. The primary focus is creating accurate, constructible, fabrication-level layouts and models while supporting coordination between the office, fabrication, and field teams.

The ideal candidate understands how mechanical piping systems are installed and can translate field conditions and project requirements into practical, coordinated solutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and coordinate mechanical piping layouts using Revit, AutoCAD Fabrication MEP, Stratus, and Navisworks.
  • Create and maintain fabrication-level models and layouts for mechanical piping systems.
  • Coordinate piping with structural, architectural, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other building systems.
  • Perform model reviews and clash detection to identify and resolve constructability issues before installation.
  • Conduct job-site walkdowns to verify existing mechanical systems, routing, equipment, and site conditions.
  • Perform field measurements and use 3D scanning technology and point-cloud data to support accurate field verification, layout, and coordination.
  • Compare field conditions to existing models and drawings and update layouts as required.
  • Work with field personnel, fabricators, project managers, and other trades to develop practical solutions to coordination and constructability issues.
  • Support fabrication and installation by providing accurate, coordinated information.
  • Develop and maintain fabrication content, modeling standards, templates, and related resources.
  • Assist with database management, project data organization, and content creation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, processes, and project delivery.
  • Help develop and implement more efficient methods for organizing information, coordinating work, and supporting field and fabrication teams.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED
  • Experience with mechanical piping layout, fabrication, installation, BIM/VDC coordination, or a related construction discipline.
  • Strong working knowledge of Revit.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Fabrication MEP.
  • Working knowledge of Navisworks.
  • Ability to understand mechanical piping systems and visualize how they will be installed in the field.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical, construction, and fabrication drawings.
  • Strong spatial awareness and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with field, fabrication, and project teams.
  • Willingness to work on active construction sites for field verification and coordination.
PREFERRED / PLUS
  • Experience with Stratus or similar fabrication/BIM/VDC platforms.
  • Mechanical piping fabrication or installation experience.
  • Experience with 3D laser scanning, point clouds, or other reality-capture technology.
  • Experience performing fabrication-level field measurements.
  • Experience conducting mechanical system walkdowns.
  • Experience with database management or structured project data.
  • Experience creating and maintaining fabrication content, families, templates, or BIM libraries.
  • Experience developing modeling or fabrication standards and workflows.
  • Familiarity with prefabrication and modular construction.
IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate can look at a mechanical system and understand how it needs to be built, not simply how it appears in a model or drawing.

This person should be comfortable working both in the office and in the field, developing coordinated piping layouts, reviewing models, using scanning and measurement technology to verify existing conditions, and working directly with field and fabrication teams to ensure the final solution is practical and constructible.

FORWARD-THINKING & CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

We are a forward-looking company that is continually looking for better ways to work. We actively seek to improve our workflows, efficiency, structure, organization, and use of technology.

The ideal candidate will bring more than technical skills to the position. We are looking for someone who is curious, proactive, and willing to challenge the status quo, someone who can identify inefficiencies, ask "is there a better way to do this?", and bring fresh, outside-the-box ideas to the team.

This role provides an opportunity to help shape how we approach BIM/VDC coordination, fabrication, field verification, data management, content creation, and project workflows. We value people who are willing to share ideas, experiment with new technology and processes, and work collaboratively to turn good ideas into better ways of doing things.

A background in mechanical piping fabrication, installation, BIM/VDC coordination, construction layout, or field coordination is highly valuable. Engineering credentials are not required.

SOFTWARE & TECHNOLOGY
  • Revit - Strong Working Knowledge
  • AutoCAD Fabrication MEP - Working Knowledge
  • Navisworks - Working Knowledge
  • Stratus - Preferred
  • 3D scanning / reality capture technology - Preferred
  • Experience with databases, point-cloud processing, BIM content creation, or related technologies is a plus.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

Success in this role means delivering accurate, coordinated, and constructible mechanical piping information that can be confidently fabricated and installed in the field.

The successful candidate will help bridge the gap between existing field conditions, 3D models, fabrication, and installation, while continually looking for ways to make the process more efficient, organized, and effective.

Most importantly, this person will contribute not only to the work itself, but to improving how the work gets done.
