Job summary

Arauco North America, Inc. in Albany, OR is seeking a Mechanical Technician / Millwright to support maintenance across the mill on a rotating 2-2-3 shift schedule (7:00–19:00).

The position requires 3+ years as an industrial mechanic with bearings, hydraulics, pumps, gearboxes, welding, and fabrication skills. Base pay starts at $40.21/hr with a $3.00/hr shift differential on rotating shifts, plus profit share and gain share opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Millwright Card or verifiable industrial/commercial experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years industrial mechanic experience (bearing, hydraulics, pumps, gearboxes).
  • Welding and fabrication skills.
  • Experience in reliability techniques and lubrication principles.
  • Hydraulic system aptitude and maintenance best practices.
  • Read hydraulic and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong troubleshooting and preventive maintenance planning.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to mill breakdowns promptly and coordinate with operators to resolve issues.
  • Prioritize safety for yourself and coworkers during maintenance work.
  • Investigate root causes of equipment failures and recommend long-term fixes.
  • Lead troubleshooting and document maintenance items (SAP Notifications).
  • Complete work orders and PM/PD activities per priority and deadlines.
  • Maintain awareness of maintenance issues across the mill or area.
  • Collaborate with operations, peers, and supervisors to ensure reliability.

This role is on a shift schedule that rotates every 2 weeks from day to night shift. The hours are 7-7 and the schedule is 2-2-3 (2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on, 2 days off, 2 days on, 3 days off, etc.)

What we are looking for:

  • Millwright Card, or Verifiable Industrial or Commercial experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years industrial mechanic experience required (including bearings, hydraulics, pumps, gearboxes)
  • Welding and Fabrication skills
  • Experience in reliability techniques & knowledge of lubrication principles
  • Hydraulic system aptitude and system maintenance best practices
  • Ability to perform precision maintenance practices toimprove asset reliability (i.e. read and follow instructions, ability to measure bearing and shaft fits, use of torque wrench, use of V-belt tension meter, laser alignment)
  • Understand and read hydraulic and mechanical drawings
  • Strong, demonstrated troubleshooting skills and ability to understand and execute preventative maintenance plans

In this role, you would:

  • Respond to mill breakdowns in a timely and efficient manner and working closely with area operators to resolve maintenance-related issues
  • Responsible for taking your safety and the safety of your co-workers as the primary consideration when performing work
  • Investigate the root cause of equipment failure and make recommendations for long-term fix
  • Lead the troubleshooting and proper documentation (SAP Notifications) of all maintenance-related items
  • Complete assigned work orders or other PM/PD activities based on established priority and confirm completed work timely
  • Responsible for being aware of maintenance issues throughout the mill or assigned area
  • Collaboration is key to Arauco's success. This role requires collaboration with our operational partners, departmental peers, and direct supervisors

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move freely throughout the facility, including climbing stairs and ladders, and navigating around equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and crouch as necessary to inspect and maintain equipment.
  • Capability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks that involve lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying heavy objects.
  • Endurance to stand and walk for extended periods, often in environments with dust, chemicals, high noise levels and varying temperatures
