Job summary

Texas A&M AgriLife is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to perform scheduled maintenance, restoration, renovation and improvements of facilities. The role includes repairing machinery, operating an agency vehicle, and traveling from Vernon to Chillicothe and other field locations to service irrigation systems and equipment.

The position requires a high school diploma, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to multitask while working with the Maintenance Foreman and team.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year of related experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair infrastructure of buildings, barns, facilities, and other relative applications.
  • Operate GPS guidance equipment and associated mechanical connections on farm equipment.
  • Install, operate, replace, repair, and excavate irrigation system components at research sites.
  • Perform grounds maintenance duties and assist with planting, spraying, cultivation and harvest of research plots and production fields.
  • Schedule maintenance and repairs of mechanical equipment, farm equipment, and vehicles.
  • Assist with ensuring facilities are ready for conferences, field days, and other activities.

Position Information

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician, under general supervision, performs scheduled maintenance work restoration, renovation and improvements of facilities. Responsible for administrative machinery and equipment repair and maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair infrastructure of buildings, barns, facilities, and other relative applications while working closely with the Maintenance Foreman.
  • These duties require operating an agency vehicle to travel from Vernon to Chillicothe and to field locations.
  • Install, operate, replace, repair, and excavate irrigation system components at research sites.
  • Perform grounds maintenance duties.
  • These duties require operating an agency vehicle to travel from Vernon to Chillicothe and to field locations.
  • Operate GPS guidance equipment and associated mechanical connections on farm equipment.
  • These duties require operating an agency vehicle to travel to field locations.
  • Purchases supplies and equipment.
  • May require operating an agency vehicle to pick up supplies and equipment.
  • Schedules maintenance and repairs of mechanical equipment, farm equipment, and vehicles.
  • These duties require operating an agency vehicle to travel from Vernon to Chillicothe and to field locations.
  • Assist with ensuring facilities are ready for conferences, field days, and other activities.
  • These duties require operating an agency vehicle to travel from Vernon to Chillicothe and to field locations.
  • Assist with planting, spraying, cultivation and harvest of research plots and production fields.
  • These duties require operating an agency vehicle to travel from Vernon to Chillicothe and to field locations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary

Compensation for this position is commensurate based on the selected candidate’s qualifications. This is an hourly paid position.
