Job summary

Qcells North America is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician in Cartersville, GA to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair utility and water treatment mechanical systems. You’ll perform preventive maintenance on PCW, CHW, CDA, HVAC, cooling towers, and related equipment, respond to alarms, and document activities in a fast-paced plant environment.

The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, ability to interpret drawings, operate HMI controls, and work safely with 5S standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge for PMs, troubleshooting, and repairs on Utility & Water Treatment systems.
  • Knowledge of pumps, valves, pipefitting fundamentals, gauges, and common industrial mechanical components.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, I&C diagrams, blueprints, and piping flow paths.
  • Experience operating HMI systems, including alarms, controls, and system flow paths.
  • Basic computer proficiency with MS Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to pass a basic mechanical aptitude assessment during the interview process.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands required to perform mechanical maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all mechanical preventive maintenance tasks on Utility and Water Treatment equipment, ensuring safe and reliable operation.
  • Conduct routine inspections and operational checks for systems including PCW, CHW, CW, CDA, HVAC, Exhaust Blowers, Cooling Towers, and other critical mechanical utilities.
  • Respond promptly to equipment alarms, system malfunctions, and emergency conditions to minimize downtime and maintain facility safety.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical components such as pumps, valves, filters, gauges, fittings, motors, blowers, and associated piping systems.
  • Assist Utilities and Water Treatment Technicians with routes, monitoring tasks, HMI system operation, and equipment performance checks as needed.
  • Operate, interpret, and respond to HMI system controls, alarms, system flow paths, and instrumentation feedback.
  • Maintain accurate operating logs, PM records, repair documentation, and system status updates.
  • Support chemical loading/unloading, waste removal activities, and ensure compliance with facility safety procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and utility spaces in alignment with 5S standards.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, flow path diagrams, mechanical drawings, and I&C schematics.
  • Identify improvement opportunities to enhance reliability, reduce downtime, and increase equipment efficiency.
  • Coordinate with leadership on planned shutdowns, equipment repairs, and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Comply with all environmental, health, and safety regulations, responding to facility emergencies involving utilities or infrastructure when required.
  • Perform other duties and special projects assigned by management.

Title: Mechanical Maintenance Technician
Location: Cartersville, GA
Classification: Hourly
Summary

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician is a key member of the Utilities Team, responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing plant Utility and Water Treatment mechanical systems. This role ensures reliable operation of critical facility infrastructure such as Process Cooling Water (PCW), Chilled Water (CHW), HVAC systems, Clean Dry Air (CDA), Cooling Towers, Exhaust Blowers, and associated pumps, valves, piping, and instrumentation.

The technician supports safe, efficient, and continuous production by performing mechanical PMs, responding to system alarms, conducting routine equipment checks, assisting Utilities and Water Treatment Technicians as needed, and maintaining proper documentation. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Training will be provided as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in mechanical maintenance within manufacturing, facility utilities, or industrial environments.
  • Experience working with HVAC systems, cooling towers, CDA systems, and industrial process water systems.
  • Familiarity with mechanical shutdown planning, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Experience supporting a large-scale industrial Utilities or Facilities Team.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, push, and move up to 50lbs without restriction.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and work on foot for up to 12 hours.
  • Work performed in non–climate-controlled areas, including mechanical rooms, rooftops, and utility spaces.
  • Exposure to noise, moving mechanical equipment, chemicals, and high-temperature or wet environments.
  • Use of PPE required, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe footwear.
  • Must be able to respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
