General Motors is seeking qualified Mechanical Journeypersons (Pipefitter). You will work with minimal supervision, applying independent judgment and problem-solving skills. Flexibility to handle multiple job assignments during a shift is essential.
Preferred Experience Includes:
- Experience with planned maintenance systems and predictive technologies
- Experience with industrial robotics, automation, and conveyance systems
Primary Responsibilities:
- Follow safety procedures aligned with OSHA standards and company policies
- Maintain, dismantle, repair, and replace mechanical and hydraulic components on industrial machinery, including shafting, motors, generators, air compressors, engines, pumps, cylinders, gears, couplings, linkages, ball screws, CNC spindles, coolant systems, filters, combustion equipment, and valves
- Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair piping systems
- Use hand and power tools for measuring, cutting, threading, grooving, bending, soldering, assembling, joining, and installing pipes, valves, and fittings
- Read and interpret blueprints for mechanical operations and assembly of conveyor systems, material handling systems, robots, and automation
- Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, lifts, and cranes
- Determine loading requirements for rigging equipment and materials
- Set up and operate CNC machine tools like lathes, milling machines, and grinders to shape parts
- Fabricate punches, tools, and steel rule dies to specifications
- Plan operations for fabricating tools or assemblies using blueprints or sketches
- Verify the quality of finished products by measuring dimensions and ensuring conformance to specifications
