General Motors is seeking qualified Mechanical Journeypersons (Pipefitters). You will work under minimal supervision, using a high level of independent judgment and problem-solving skills. Flexibility to handle multiple job assignments during a shift is essential.
Preferred Experience Includes:
- Experience with planned maintenance systems and predictive technologies
- Experience with industrial robotics, automation, and conveyance systems
Primary Responsibilities:
- Follow established safety procedures according to OSHA standards and company policies
- Maintain, dismantle, repair, and replace mechanical and hydraulic components on industrial machinery, including bearings, seals, motors, generators, air compressors, engines, pumps, cylinders, gears, couplings, linkages, ball screws, high-speed CNC spindles, coolant systems, filters, and combustion equipment
- Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair piping systems
- Use hand and power tools for measuring, cutting, threading, grooving, bending, soldering, assembling, joining, and installing pipes, valves, and fittings
- Read and interpret blueprints for the mechanical operation and assembly of conveyor systems, material handling systems, robots, and other automation equipment
- Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, vertical lifts, and cranes
- Determine loading requirements for rigging equipment and materials for lifting
- Set up and operate CNC machine tools like lathes, milling machines, and grinders to shape parts to specifications
- Fabricate punches, tools, steel rule tools, and T-sets to exact specifications
- Plan operation sequences for fabricating tools or assemblies using blueprints, sketches, or models
- Verify the quality of finished products by checking dimensions, alignment, and clearances with measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators
