Job Description

General Motors has a need for qualified Mechanical Journeypersons (Machine Repair). You will work under minimal supervision with a high level of independent judgment and problem solving. You should be flexible enough to take on and tackle multiple job assignments in a shift.

Preferred Experience Includes:

  • Experience with planned maintenance systems and predictive technologies
  • Experience with industrial robotics, automation, and conveyance systems

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Follow established safety procedures according to OSHA standards and company procedures
  • Maintain, dismantle, repair, and replace mechanical and hydraulic components on industrial machinery
  • Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair piping systems
  • Use various hand or power tools for measuring, cutting, threading, and installing pipes and fittings
  • Read and interpret blueprints for conveyor systems, robots, and automation
  • Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, lifts, and cranes
  • Determine loading requirements for rigging equipment
  • Set up and operate CNC machine tools to shape parts
  • Fabricate tools and determine quality of finished products using measuring instruments

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least six (6) years of related experience in Mechanical trade (Machine Repair) or a U.S. Department of Labor Certificate
  • Must complete GM hiring process including assessments, drug testing, and background check
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Willing to work flexible shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays
  • GM does not sponsor immigration; do not apply if sponsorship is needed
  • Current GM employees should contact their HR/LR
  • This position may be filled as Journeyperson or Journeyperson in Training, with corresponding pay rates

Physical Requirements:

  • Respond quickly to safety signals and alarms
  • Work and stand for extended periods
  • Wear PPE comfortably
  • Navigate busy environments
  • Bend, twist, kneel, reach, and lift materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Drive mobile equipment as needed
