Job summary

Hitachi Rail USA, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Integration Engineer based in Hagerstown, Maryland. You will analyze and integrate train components in a fast-paced engineering environment, lead mechanical system development with suppliers, and manage the digital mock-up and assembly drawings for manufacturing.

Collaboration across disciplines is essential. The role requires 3-5 years of experience, a mechanical engineering degree, and proficiency in Creo/CATIA/Autodesk.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of Mechanical Integration experience.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD tools: Creo, CATIA, Autodesk.
  • Strong independent work ability and adaptable to fast-changing environment.
  • Good teamwork and cross-disciplinary communication.
  • Proficient with MS Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out 3D mechanical integration analysis across train components.
  • Lead development and integration of mechanical systems with suppliers.
  • Manage full train digital mock-up in 3D CAD environments.
  • Develop tolerance stack-up analyses for system integration.
  • Produce full train assembly drawings for manufacturing.
  • Design frames, brackets, and supporting structures.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to deliver engineering excellence.

Job Description

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Mechanical Integration Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced engineering environment. Based in Hagerstown, Maryland. You will play a key role in shaping the integration of advanced rolling stock systems, ensuring designs move seamlessly from concept through to manufacture. This is an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale, high-profile rail projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and international colleagues to deliver innovative and reliable engineering solutions.

Accountabilities
  • Carry out 3D mechanical integration analysis across train components, producing clear and actionable reports
  • Lead the development and integration of mechanical systems, including supplier collaboration and co-design activities
  • Manage and maintain the full train digital mock-up in 3D CAD environments
  • Develop and oversee tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure successful system integration
  • Produce full train assembly drawings to support manufacturing processes
  • Design mechanical components such as frames, brackets, and supporting structures
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners to deliver engineering excellence.
Required Skills & Knowledge
  • 3-5 years of experience in Mechanical Integration Engineer
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical background
  • Strong experience with 3D CAD tools (e.g. Creo, CATIA, Autodesk)
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to a dynamic, fast-changing environment
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across disciplines
  • Proficiency in standard engineering and office tools (Word, Excel, etc.)
Desired Skills & Knowledge
  • Knowledge of railway vehicle systems and integration principles
  • Familiarity with engineering processes and requirements management tools (e.g. DOORS)
  • Understanding of rail standards and regulations
  • Passion for the rail industry and continuous improvement
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for business requirements
Education / Qualifications

Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent technical background.
