Job summary

PADCOM Design and Construction Management seeks a Mechanical Inspector to support LAWA's Capital Improvement Program, ensuring mechanical and plumbing systems meet project specs, codes, and LAWA standards across complex airport infrastructure.

You will perform daily inspections, review drawings and submittals, prepare reports, and coordinate with contractors and engineers. Requires ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector certification and Cal-OSHA 30-hour.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of mechanical inspection experience in building construction.
• ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector certification is required.
• Cal-OSHA 30-hour certification within the last 4 years.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily inspections of mechanical and plumbing systems to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and applicable codes
• Review and interpret construction documents including drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders
• Prepare detailed daily inspection reports documenting construction activities, deficiencies, and progress
• Verify contractor compliance with local, state, and national mechanical and plumbing codes
• Inspect HVAC systems, ductwork, chillers, boilers, ventilation systems, and fire/life safety integrations
• Support commissioning, testing, and special inspections
• Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders
• Track field changes, quantities, and contractor progress for payment validation

Job description

The Mechanical Inspector will support Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) construction inspection efforts as part of the Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within LAWA’s Capital Improvement Program.

This role is responsible for ensuring mechanical and plumbing systems are installed in compliance with project specifications, applicable codes, and LAWA standards across complex airport infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform daily inspections of mechanical and plumbing systems to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and applicable codes
• Review and interpret construction documents including drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders
• Prepare detailed daily inspection reports documenting construction activities, deficiencies, and progress
• Verify contractor compliance with local, state, and national mechanical and plumbing codes
• Inspect HVAC systems, ductwork, chillers, boilers, ventilation systems, and fire/life safety integrations
• Support commissioning, testing, and special inspections
• Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders
• Track field changes, quantities, and contractor progress for payment validation

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum 3+ years of experience performing mechanical inspections for building construction
• Current ICC Certification as a Commercial Mechanical Inspector (Required)
• Valid Cal-OSHA 30-hour certification (within the last 4 years)
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems installation
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications

Preferred Qualifications:

• ICC Commercial Plumbing Inspector certification
• Experience on large-scale commercial, industrial, or public infrastructure projects
• Knowledge of CBC and CMC codes
• Experience working on airport or aviation-related projects
• NFPA 70E training and/or confined space entry certification

Additional Requirements:

• Must obtain LAWA SIDA badge prior to start
• Ability to work flexible shifts (day, swing, or night) based on construction schedules
• Willingness to work overtime and modified schedules as needed
