Morgner is seeking a Mechanical Inspector to join their Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple Capital Improvement Program projects at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport.)
Candidates must hold a current ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector certification, 3+ years of mechanical inspection experience.
NOTE: May be required to work various shifts, including day, swing, and night.
- Inspects the construction of a wide variety of airport improvements and utilities projects to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, contracts, permits, environmental documents, agreements for work, and may provide construction inspection support.
- Conduct comprehensive daily inspections of mechanical and plumbing systems across building and terminal construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and project specifications, review and interpret construction documents including blueprints and shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
- Demonstrates strong proficiency in preparing comprehensive daily inspection reports that clearly document the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all observed construction activities, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and accountability in tracking progress and identifying issues, deficiencies, or safety concerns in a timely manner.
- Verify contractor compliance with local and national mechanical and plumbing codes, and LAWA-specific standards.
- Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and job quantities
- Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values.
- Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third-party agencies as needed.
Perform inspections of Mechanical and Plumbing installations including, but not limited to:
- Domestic Water and Sewage Systems
- Venting, fire sprinklers, and gas piping
- Mechanical ventilation and exhaust
- Fire and life safety integration (e.g. smoke dampers)
- Mechanical and plumbing shutdowns, lockout / tagout procedures
- Commissioning and balancing reports
- Fire life safety systems including smoke/heat detectors and FM-200 suppression systems
Hardware/Software Knowledge
- Knowledge of Project Management Information Software used for inspection/document control (i.e., Microsoft Office)
Education/Training
- High school diploma (or equivalent)
- ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Additional Current ICC certification as a Commercial Plumbing Inspector
- NFPA 70E standards training within the last 3 years. (we can provide this training if you don't have it)
- OSHA 30-hrs (we can provide this training if you don't have it)
- Plumbing experience (journeyman/master level) with progression into inspection.
- Experience inspecting mechanical systems of large-scale commercial, industrial or public buildings.
- Confined Space Entry Training (we can provide this training if you don't have it)
- Experience overseeing and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations on significant construction projects.
- Expertise in identifying and addressing deficiencies, ensuring that all aspects of construction meet the required standards.
- Must be open to learning the prescriptive items required by the agency.
- A strong understanding of diverse code requirements (CBC & CMC).
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
