United Rentals, Inc. is seeking a Senior Engineer for the Fluid Solutions Division to provide engineering support across multiple profit centers. You will design and seal site-specific pumping, dewatering, and filtration systems, with calculations and drawings.

You will work with sales to develop customer solutions, perform hydraulic analyses, and pursue multi-state licensure. This role emphasizes independent work and teamwork in a safety-sensitive environment. Candidates should hold a B.S.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in mechanical, civil, environmental, chemical engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) designation required or pursued.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate project requirements and design fluid handling systems for efficiency and reliability.
  • Provide sealed site plans including pumping and dewatering systems with calculations and drawings.
  • Ensure drawings meet design standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Use hydraulic modeling and pipe flow software to optimize system performance.
  • Educate and support Fluid Solutions sales in developing customer solutions and quotes.
  • Assist with application support, system evaluations, and pump troubleshooting.
  • Obtain/maintain current NCEES record for professional licenses in multiple states.
  • Other duties as needed.

As a Sr. Engineer, you will be responsible for providing engineering support to multiple profit centers within the Fluid Solutions Division. You will be dedicated to meeting Fluid Solutions engineering needs of contractors, industrial and commercial companies, municipalities, and other customers, and in doing so, drive profitable engineering revenue for the Division and Company.

What you'll do:

  • Evaluate project requirements and design safe, effective, and practical fluid handling systems that promote jobsite efficiency and operational reliability
  • Provide sealed/stamped site‑specific plans including pumping systems, sewer bypass systems, groundwater dewatering systems, and filtration systems, along with supporting calculations and drawings
  • Ensure engineering drawings and plans are accurate and meet applicable engineering design standards and regulatory requirements
  • Utilize hydraulic modeling and pipe flow software to evaluate and optimize system performance and support equipment selection
  • Educate as necessary and provide engineering support to Fluid Solutions sales representatives in developing customer solutions and quotes
  • Assist with application support, system evaluations, equipment selection, and pump system troubleshooting
  • Obtain and/or maintain current NCEES record for the purpose of securing professional licenses in multiple states
  • Other duties assigned as needed

Requirements:

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering, or related engineering field and Professional Engineering (PE) designation
  • 5-10 years of experience as a licensed engineer in fluid handling, pumping systems, water/wastewater, dewatering, or related engineering environment
  • Working knowledge of basic pump system design, troubleshooting and performance analysis
  • Proficiency in hydraulic calculations including Total Dynamic Head (TDH), Net Positive Suction Head (NPSH), and system head loss calculations
  • Experience with pipe flow modeling software and engineering analysis tools
  • Familiarity with basic soil properties, testing procedures, and interpretation of geotechnical data
  • Basic understanding of heat transfer principles and associated calculations preferred
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Mathcad, and MS Office (Word and Excel)
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Effectively work with customers and sales reps to develop and implement fluid management solutions
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
