Job description

Summary / Objective

The Mechanical Planner / Field Engineer supports the EnergySolutions LPSW project by developing, coordinating, and maintaining work packages and plant work orders required for safe, compliant, and efficient execution of mechanical and welding activities. This role ensures all planned work aligns with nuclear regulatory standards, engineered design changes, and field implementation requirements. Responsibilities include evaluating engineering change documents for constructability, preparing detailed mechanical/welding work instructions, and supporting field execution throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential Functions
  • Engineering Change Review Review ECRs, MCNs, and other engineering design deliverables for mechanical constructability, weldability, installation feasibility, maintainability, and material requirements. Apply independent technical judgment to identify field constraints and ensure safe, efficient execution.
  • Material Requisition Initiation Initiate Material Requisitions (MRs) using approved Bills of Material to support mechanical and welded system modifications associated with LPSW project scope.
  • Engineering & Field Coordination Coordinate with Engineering, Welding Engineering, and field implementation teams to clarify design changes, support MCN development, and ensure accurate execution of mechanical and welding work packages.
  • Superintendent Interface Interface directly with project superintendents to plan and align project execution strategies, coordinate mechanical and welding activities, and support development and adherence to replacement policies. Ensure planning decisions reflect field realities, schedule constraints, and EnergySolutions’ operational expectations.
  • Security Compliance Prescreen Conduct preliminary security compliance reviews to ensure planned work meets EnergySolutions and nuclear facility security requirements.
  • ALARA Review Prescreen Determine the need for ALARA planning support based on radiological conditions, task complexity, and work environment.
  • Document Control Coordination Maintain communication with Document Control for MCN issuance, revisions, and updates to mechanical/welding field work packages.
  • CMMS Work Step Development Generate and update CMMS work steps to support mechanical and welding implementation of engineering changes within the LPSW project.
  • LOTO Isolation Recommendations Provide recommended Lock?out/Tag?out isolation points for mechanical systems impacted by planned work activities.
  • FME Planning Identify required Foreign Material Exclusion (FME) controls; develop initial FME plans and route for approval when applicable.
  • Field Constructability Walkdowns Perform or coordinate mechanical and welding constructability walkdowns during design development to validate installation feasibility and field conditions.
  • ECR Binder Management Establish and maintain master ECR binders used throughout planning and implementation phases of the LPSW project.
  • Implementation Hold Notifications Notify field implementation teams and Document Control when ECRs or portions of ECRs are placed on implementation hold.
  • Additional Duties Perform other related mechanical, welding, and field engineering duties as assigned to support EnergySolutions’ LPSW project execution.
Required Education & Experience
  • Unescorted Access Ability to successfully obtain unescorted access at a nuclear power plant.
  • Mechanical & Welding Skills Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions; assemble and disassemble mechanical components; operate small tools, power tools, and equipment.
