Responsibilities
- Initiates and develops mechanical equipment designs; may use computer‑assisted engineering and design software to perform assignments; takes mechanical systems from concept through commissioning and testing.
- Performs a variety of engineering calculations to document compliance with project and code requirements, including stress calculations, limits and fits, and equipment sizing.
- Generates and is fully conversant with drawings, layout drawings, assembly and detail drawings, specifications, and data sheets.
- Assists in the preparation and approval of design documents and plant modifications, supervising designers as required.
- Provides technical expertise and guidance to develop, manage, and implement engineering analysis, activities and programs to identify and resolve equipment and system problems.
- Familiar with national codes and standards applicable to mechanical engineering.
- Ensures relevant design criteria, specifications, and safety licensing bases are used in preparation of design media.
- Interfaces with staff and subcontractors to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently; safety is integral to equipment design.
- Works in multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring integration of design across disciplines.
- Performs checking to ensure design media accuracy in accordance with company policies and client expectations.
- Works to assigned schedules, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of work; initiates corrective measures to overcome delays.
- Understands, complies with, and is responsible for working to environmental health and safety policies and procedures; attends required meetings.
- Provides supervision and leadership to members of the design team, commensurate with seniority.
- Recommends new equipment, concepts, and techniques to improve performance, simplify design, reduce costs, correct design flaws, or comply with changes in client requirements, codes, or regulations.
- Performs independent research, reviews, studies, and analyses in support of plant changes and design modifications.
- Supports installation and testing of site systems and components.
- Participates in the preparation of cost estimates for engineering services and coordinates work assignments to meet project‑established schedules and budgets.
- Relies on experience and judgment; works under limited supervision; significant creativity and latitude is expected.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Detailed knowledge of functional discipline and its practical application.

- Ability to carry up to 10 pounds; handle and reach below shoulder.

- Ability to see close and distance; basic colors/shades.
- Ability to work inside an office, outside, and in extreme temperatures.
- Ability to work with moving objects/hazardous machines and slippery/uneven walking surfaces.
- Ability to work alone and with others.
- Ability to drive a vehicle and travel overnight; perform under deadline pressure.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree required in mechanical engineering or related technical degree or equivalent.
- Certifications: Professional Engineering License preferred.
- Required Experience: Minimum of 5 years experience.
- Preferred Experience: Previous nuclear power plant experience.
