Job summary

BMA Group Global in Miami seeks a seasoned estimator to oversee preconstruction and estimating for mechanical, plumbing and fire protection packages in South Florida and beyond. You will develop bid packages, perform quantity takeoffs, identify subcontractors and prepare budget and GMP inputs.

You will travel occasionally within the US and Caribbean, and may work one day per week from home after onboarding, joining a collaborative team focused on accuracy and value engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master's degree in Engineering or related field.
• At least 5 years of experience performing the duties described.
• Proficient Excel, MS Word, Onscreen takeoff or similar, Bluebeam or similar.
• Fluent in English and able to work with a team.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Prepare bid packages, detailed and comprehensive packages’ scope.
• Identify suitable subcontractors and vendors for all the projects depending on size, complexity and location.
• Maintain a good working relationship with subcontractors and vendors.
• Ability to perform quantity takeoffs on drawings and prepare in-house estimates.
• Issue RFIs as needed and follow-up with stakeholders.
• Understand and analyze subcontractors and vendors proposals.
• Ensure proposals cover the entire related scope of work and estimate cost of scope gaps.
• Prepare documents for budget or GMP presentation to owners (SoV, bid tabs, qualifications & assumptions).
• Liaise with JV partners, partners, designers as needed.

Job description

The position will oversee preconstruction and estimating for all projects (building) in South Florida and, when applicable, other areas of the US and Caribbean, for mechanical, plumbing and fire protection packages (including swimming pools and kitchen equipment when applicable). The candidate will work on tasks that are related to project cost estimation, prepare complete and comprehensive Bid Packages.

The work location is in our client's office in Miami. The successful candidate may have the opportunity, starting 3 months after his/her start date, to work one day per week from home.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties and responsibilities below are related to the following trades/divisions: Fire Protection, Plumbing, HVAC and, potentially when applicable, Swimming Pools and Kitchen Equipment. Depending on the company needs and the candidate’s interest, the candidate may be exposed to other trades/divisions but not without proper support from the team.

They are also applicable to all the projects being followed by company, in Florida and the Caribbean.

• With the support of the preconstruction manager, prepare all necessary documents to allow for budget or GMP presentation to owners (SoV, bid tabs, qualifications & assumptions…).
• Liaise with third parties such as JV partners, partners, designers (with the support of the preconstruction manager).

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor or Master's degree in Engineering or related field.
• Candidate must have at least 5 years of experience performing the duties described above.
• Proficient Excel, MS Word, Onscreen takeoff or similar, Bluebeam or similar.
• The candidate must be fluent in English and be comfortable to work with a team, as a team.
• The candidate may be required, from time to time, to travel within the US or the Caribbean for work-related missions (limited to 2 to 4 days maximum).
