Job summary

The County of Hawai‘i is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to repair, overhaul, and maintain a variety of mechanical equipment in Hilo. The role requires standing-by availability and immediate response to emergencies in harsh working conditions.

Qualifications include an eighth grade completion and four years of mechanical repair experience, plus a valid Hawai'i Class 3 driver's license and DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate prior to appointment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum eighth grade education and four years of mechanical repair experience.
  • Valid Hawai'i Driver License (Class 3) required at time of filing.
  • Current Department of Transportation Medical Examiner's Certificate required prior to appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, overhaul, and maintain pumps, generators, power mowers, compressors, welding machines, jack hammers, electric motors, concrete mixers, and other mechanical equipment.
  • M ake periodic inspections of mechanical equipment and keep records.
  • May supervise the work of other mechanical repairers or helpers as required.
  • Respond to stand-by duties and emergencies as needed.
