Job summary

Temposonics is seeking a proactive, highly skilled R&D Mechanical Technician to join our Research & Development team in Cary, NC. You will bridge the gap between engineering concepts and physical execution, bringing next-generation sensors and electromechanical systems to life in a fast-paced lab.

The role requires hands-on proficiency with CNC and manual machines, precision soldering and PCB work, and the ability to read complex drawings and schematics.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Mechatronics or related field.
• 3+ years in an R&D lab, rapid-prototyping shop, or precision manufacturing.
• Strong ability to read mechanical drawings, GD&T, and electrical schematics.
• Proven manual and CNC machining proficiency.
• Experience with precision metrology tools.

Responsibilities

• Prototype parts and fixtures using CNC/manual machines.
• Perform PCB rework, soldering, and wiring harness assembly.
• Conduct reliability and environmental tests and document results.
• Support NPI handoffs between R&D and Manufacturing.
• Maintain a safe, organized R&D lab and manage inventories.

About the Role

Temposonics is seeking a proactive, highly skilled, and versatile R&D Mechanical Technician to join our Research & Development team. In this role, you’ll bridge the gap between engineering concepts and physical execution - bringing next-generation sensors and electromechanical systems to life.

Key Responsibilities

• Prototyping & Machining: Set up and operate CNC/manual machine shop tools (lathes, mills) to fabricate high-precision prototype parts and custom fixtures.
• PCB Rework & Assembly: Perform high-reliability PCB rework, electrical debugging, and fine-pitch soldering (SMT and through-hole).
• Testing & Validation: Conduct rigorous reliability and environmental testing (thermal, shock, vibration) and document engineering test reports.
• NPI & Production Support: Serve as the technical bridge between R&D and Manufacturing to ensure smooth new product introduction (NPI) handoffs.
• Lab Management: Maintain the R&D lab in a safe, tour-ready condition, manage consumable inventories, and maintain equipment.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical/Electromechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent military/trade experience.
• Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience in an R&D lab, rapid-prototyping shop, or precision manufacturing environment.
• Technical Skills:
  • Proven manual and CNC machining proficiency.
  • Strong precision soldering, harness assembly, and PCB rework skills.
  • Ability to read complex mechanical drawings, GD&T, and electrical schematics.
  • Proficiency with precision metrology tools (calipers, micrometers).

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor).
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 compliance and sensor-industry testing protocols.
• Experience with 3D printing and DAQ systems (e.g., LabVIEW).
