We are seeking an experienced and collaborative Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead our mechanical engineering team, oversee custom machinery development, and foster a strong culture of support and continuous improvement. In this role, you will balance team management, hands-on project involvement, quality control, and client communications to ensure successful project execution and high product standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage staff scheduling, task assignments, and PTO approvals.
- Direct onboarding and mandatory annual training programs for engineering staff.
- Cultivate group cohesion, team camaraderie, and a supportive, collaborative work culture.
Project Management & Execution:
- Organize engineering priorities based on collective project schedules.
- Hold weekly project schedule reviews and mentor engineers in project management principles.
- Maintain direct involvement in select projects to keep technical skills sharp.
- Proactively assist staff in resolving technical challenges and ensuring new applications are well documented.
Product Quality & Operations:
- Review machine work and assembly to ensure built machinery meets quality and operational standards ("passes the eye test").
- Conduct or delegate final mechanical approvals for all machinery.
- Ensure strict adherence to engineering controls and programming standards.
- Standardize operations by developing clear work instructions and documentation.
Customer Relations & Communication:
- Communicate effectively between internal teams and external customers.
- Gather customer requirements effectively and delegate appropriate technical support to fulfill client needs.
Qualifications & Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
- Significant experience in custom automation and machinery design.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills across internal and client interactions.
- Strong work ethic, high detail orientation, and a drive to continuously learn and adapt.
