Job summary

JR Automation, A Hitachi Group Company, located onsite in Auburn Hills, MI, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern/Co-Op for the May 2027–August 2027 period. You will support mechanical engineers across design, build, and deployment of custom automation equipment.

You will detail drawings, update CAD models, and assist with vendor sizing and quotations while developing practical solutions under guidance from experienced teams.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited college pursuing an engineering degree.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Willing to work onsite in Auburn Hills, MI.

Responsibilities

• Detail drawing packages for Mechanical Engineers.
• Solve practical problems with no standard solution.
• Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
• Update CAD models based on redline drawings once machines have been built.
• Complete layout of machine through detail of all components.
• Check peer drawing packages.
• Develop conceptual designs for customers or sales and quoting.
• Work with vendors for proper sizing and quotation of purchased items needed for design.
• Complete all stock sizes for mechanical bill of material.
• Create dxf files for burnouts and internal/external machining.

As a Mechanical Engineer Intern/Co-Op , you will assist and support other Mechanical Engineers. Learn from some of the most dedicated and technically competent engineers in the Automation Industry. JR Automation drives change by learning and innovating faster than anyone else. As a member of a project team, you'll work alongside our Applications, Controls, Mechanical, and Build teams to support the design, build, program, and deployment of custom automated equipment.

Skills You’ll Have:

• Computer literacy in Excel, Word, Outlook, and Pro Engineer preferred
• Experience reviewing and understanding drawings.
