Job summary

Integration Innovation, Inc. (i3) offers a Summer 2027 on-site Mechanical Engineering Intern opportunity supporting the Naval Research Laboratory's Tactical Electronic Warfare Division. The role involves 3D CAD work, thermal testing, assembly, and fast prototyping to aid EW threat simulators.

Incumbents will develop 2D drawings, BOMs, and test documentation while collaborating with engineers. A Secret clearance is required; U.S. citizenship is mandatory.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a BS or MS degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
• Candidate must be a current student at the time of the internship.
• Completed coursework in thermodynamics, heat transfer, statics, mechanics of materials, or machine design.
• Experience in 3D CAD modeling via SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, or Siemens NX.
• Hands-on lab, makerspace, or shop experience with tools, rapid prototyping, or basic metrology equipment.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security clearance (Active Secret required before start).
• U.S. Citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in 3D CAD modeling and mechanical design of RF enclosures and antenna fixtures.
• Support thermal testing, temperature profiling, and evaluation of fixtures.
• Assist senior engineers with mechanical integration, assembly, and cabling routing.
• Help prepare mechanical test setups, including vibration and shock testing.
• Create and maintain detailed 2D drawings and BOMs.
• Support rapid prototyping via 3D printing and machine shop liaison.
• Document test results and present findings to the team.
• Other duties as assigned.
