Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs in Burns Harbor, IN offers a Project Mechanical Engineering Intern role for students pursuing a BS in mechanical engineering or related technical degrees. Interns will work beside engineering and operations leaders to apply principles to real-world problems and build life-long professional connections.

Under supervision, you will assist in maintenance planning, read blueprints, support project scheduling, and help analyze equipment performance.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or other related technical degree.
• Completion of at least sophomore year of study by the summer of 2027.

Responsibilities

• Recommend and/or perform predictive, preventative, and emergency maintenance of equipment
• Research, design, evaluate, install, modernize, re‑design, operate, maintain, and repair machinery and equipment
• Resolve equipment malfunctions, including those requiring scheduled shutdowns or breakdown action
• Participate in planning, scheduling, and cost control of maintenance/engineering projects
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer‑generated reports
• Analyze current operating performance and standard operating procedures and make recommendations for improvement
• Various other projects as needed to support the business

Education

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related fields

Sophomore year completion by Summer 2027
