Job summary

Freeform is deploying software-defined, autonomous metal 3D printing factories in Hawthorne, CA. As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will design, prototype, and test mechanical systems for production-ready platforms, collaborating with electrical and software engineers to integrate subsystems.

You will gain hands-on experience in mechanical design, motion control, and thermal systems within a fast-paced startup environment, contributing to agile, cross-disciplinary projects.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering from an ABET-accredited university or college.
• Hands-on design experience from internships or engineering clubs (FSAE, Baja SAE, solar car, rocket club, robotics, etc.).
• Strong grasp of mechanical engineering fundamentals and ability to apply first-principles reasoning.

Responsibilities

• Own a cradle to grave project delivering meaningful impact to print factory capabilities.
• Contribute to design, build, prototyping, and testing of mechanical components and subsystems.
• Assist with tolerance analysis and mechanical feasibility studies.
• Participate in hands-on builds, integration, and validation of mechanical systems.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to improve system performance and manufacturability.
