Job description

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Internin ourBroomfield, COlocation.Allapplicants for placement in safety-sensitive positions will berequiredtosubmitto a pre-employment drug test.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies from concept through production release, including prototype and production hardware.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using industry‑standard CAD tools, applying GD&T and best drafting practices.
  • Release and manage product data, drawings, and change orders in the PLM system in accordance with configuration management processes.
  • Support and learn basic to intermediate mechanical analyses (e.g., structural, thermal, tolerance, and trade studies) to support design decisions.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, reliable, and scalable.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation such as specifications, test plans, assembly procedures, and work instructions.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to technical risk identification and mitigation.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes, tools, and standards.
YOU MUST HAVE:
  • Actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree
  • Graduating on/after December 2027

WE VALUE:
  • Actively pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering preferred
  • Experience designing and manufacturing hardware as part of projects, internships, clubs, or hobbies.
  • Willingness for hands‑on work.
  • CAD Experience preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Continuing enrollment in degree program upon completion of the internship
  • Basic understanding of mechanical properties
  • Basic understanding of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
  • Individuals who are results‑oriented and able to work with little supervision, who consistently take the initiative to get things done despite competing priorities
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Validated academic excellence (3.0 GPA and higher)

$27 - $39 an hour

Compensation & Benefits:

The pay range for this role is $27 - $39 per hour. Actual compensation within this range may vary based on the candidate’s skills, educational background, professional experience, and unique qualifications for the role.

Positioned between senior mechanical design engineers, manufacturing specialists, and quality teams, the position assists in translating physical system concepts into detailed 3D models and technical documentation. By performing basic structural, thermal, and tolerance evaluations, individuals in this functional capacity help validate design trade-offs and manage product lifecycle data, ensuring physical assemblies transition effectively through iterative design reviews and standard manufacturing processes.

Mechanical engineering functions support the quantum ecosystem by providing the physical infrastructure, enclosures, structural framing, and thermal management systems required for advanced computing hardware. While not developing quantum algorithms or core quantum physics models directly, mechanical engineers enable physical integration and stable deployment of complex optical, electronic, and cryogenic sub-assemblies. This work ensures that delicate physical architectures remain structurally secure, thermally regulated, and scalable across multi‑component quantum hardware environments.
