Operating under supervision and with significant oversight, an Engineering Intern works within an assigned group to assist engineering staff while gaining valuable skills and experience. They may interface with internal departments and external organizations, receiving regular guidance from leaders and other engineers.
Idaho Power's Customer Relations and Energy Efficiency team provides engineering support and financial incentives to commercial and industrial customers who pursue solutions to save electric energy, which ultimately lowers their operating costs. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to visit a wide range of customers across our service area to collect and analyze data, ultimately assessing and providing suggestions to improve systems such compressed air, ammonia refrigeration, pumping systems, fan systems, HVAC, controls, and lighting. Additionally, you will also learn about customer organizations strategic energy management strategies and you will get exposure to a host of operations across the company as you immerse yourself in the in the complex and dynamic nature of energy efficiency in the regulated utility industry.

You'll investigate how utility materials perform in real-world environments, observe field operations, research industry standards, and develop inspection methods used to evaluate material quality before installation. By the end of the internship, you'll have designed and implemented a repeatable quality assurance process that delivers measurable business value while gaining hands‑on experience in quality engineering, asset reliability, materials performance, and utility operations.
This position is a sedentary job requiring working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. Ergonomic accommodations including sit to stand desks are available and installed as needed. Occasional overnight travel may be required. Some roles require field visits and outdoor work. Candidates for these roles must be able to hike and walk over uneven terrain possibly in inclement weather.
This is a Seasonal position. Company paid housing will be available to students on an as needed
