Job summary

Job Summary

Provide advanced mechanical engineering services in support of either the operation and maintenance of campus facilities, mechanical systems and utilities, or systems and equipment associated with research efforts within an academic or research unit or laboratory. Provide work and project direction to other engineers and technical personnel. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: facilities management and utilities personnel or research management and faculty; co-workers, vendors, suppliers and contractors. This position typically will advise and counsel: facilities or lab management. This position will supervise: NA (work direction only).

Responsibilities

• Lead in the design, installation, and testing of mechanical systems and components.
• Develop engineering project schedules and make work assignments.
• Conduct analyses of mechanical system performance; prescribe corrective action where required.
• Develop plans and specifications for mechanical systems and components.
• Troubleshoot mechanical systems; may involve oversight of calibration and repair work.
• Prepare drawings, schematic diagrams, and related documentation associated with mechanical components and systems.
• Manage project engineering budgets.
• Interact with vendors regarding procurement and delivery issues.
• Conduct project reviews for conformance to quality standards and compliance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
Six to eight years of job-related experience

• Advanced knowledge and application of mechanical engineering principles, processes, and best practices.
• Experience interpreting and applying applicable mechanical engineering regulations, codes, and safety standards.
• Demonstrated project management experience, including planning, coordination, scheduling, and execution.
• Proficiency with standard computer applications and advanced engineering software relevant to mechanical systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to analyze complex engineering problems and develop practical, cost-effective solutions.
• Design for manufacturing (DFM) and CAD/CAM.
