Bala Consulting Engineers seeks a strong Mechanical Engineer (MEP) to lead the Baltimore and DC area departments. You will guide engineering staff, develop plans and procedures, and manage budgets and timelines for projects.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in mechanical design, PE licensure, and strong knowledge of building codes, with excellent communication and leadership abilities to drive enterprise-wide success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and PE license required.
• 10+ years’ experience in mechanical design (MEP) with leadership experience.
• Strong knowledge of building codes and technical writing ability.

Responsibilities

• Lead the combined Baltimore and Washington, DC area Mechanical Engineering Departments.
• Act as engineering leader and technical expert addressing staff questions and issues.
• Create detailed engineering plans, processes, and procedures for staff use.
• Propose and oversee budgets and timelines for projects.
• Communicate with managers, suppliers, and contractors; present reports.
• Recruit, hire, coach, and provide leadership within the department.

We are seeking a strong, experienced Mechanical Engineer (AEC/MEP) with leadership capability to lead our combined Baltimore and Washington, DC area Mechanical Engineering Departments and supporting the function enterprise-wide.

Primary responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineer Department Manager MEP will include:

• Serve as an engineering leader and technical expert with the ability to answer questions and resolve issues brought forth by the engineering staff.


• Create detailed engineering plans, processes, and procedures for engineering staff to use and abide by.


• Propose and oversee budgets and timelines for engineering projects.


• Check and confirm the accuracy of the work performed and the methods used by engineering staff.


• Communicate and collaborate with other managers, suppliers, and contractors.


• Prepare and deliver various engineering-related presentations, both internally and externally


• Perform department management activities including recruitment, hiring, coaching, and leadership

Requirements for this position include:

• 10 plus years’ experience in mechanical design (MEP)


• Team supervisory experience


• Bachelor’s degree mechanical engineering and PE license required


• Skilled technical writer


• Expert knowledge of building codes


• Excellent interpersonal skills


• Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment with the ability to work individually or as part of a team.


• Knowledge of Sustainable certification programs


• Strong software skills including Revit
