Job summary

Hargrove Engineers + Constructors is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineering intern to assist in routine designs of less complex projects under direct supervision. You will work with senior engineers to develop conceptual layouts and studies to determine the simplest, most efficient approach.

Responsibilities include producing preliminary designs and material take-offs, detailing calculations, spreadsheets, drawings, and sketches, and assisting with solving layout issues.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor or Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
  • GPA 2.7 or above.
  • Familiarity with design standards and codes.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD or MicroStation).

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine designs of less complex engineering tasks under direct supervision.
  • Assist in developing conceptual layouts and studies for efficient solutions.
  • Produce estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs.
  • Create detail design calculations, spreadsheets, drawings, and sketches; resolve routine layout issues.

What You'll Be DoingJob Scope: Generally responsible for performing routine designs of less complex engineering assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This work will be performed under direct supervision.Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:Familiarity with and utilization of department engineering design and drafting standards.Assisting in developing conceptual layouts and studies as necessary to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks.Assisting in producing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs.Assisting in producing detail design calculations, spreadsheets, reports, drawings, and sketches for various projects.Assisting engineers and designers in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.Ideal BackgroundEducation: Current enrollment in a Bachelor or Master of Science degree program for Mechanical Engineering at an accredited university.GPA: 2.7 or aboveRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Familiarity with design standards and codes.Working knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD, Microstation or both.Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.Good communication skills, both verbal and written.Physical Requirements:Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.Hargrove CultureWe work to create an environment founded on trust, personal integrity, and a “team mentality” so that each person understands the value of their contributions both on a project and company-wide level.
