Job summary

Oracle is seeking a senior mechanical engineer specializing in data center cooling at scale. You will architect and standardize cooling systems (air, liquid, adiabatic), drive energy efficiency targets, and lead projects from concept through commissioning. The role requires deep CFD/thermal modeling and strong vendor relations across multiple sites.

You will influence decisions with data, champion best practices, and ensure reliability and SLA adherence in high-density environments.

Qualifications

  • 12 years of experience in mechanical engineering or related discipline focused on data center cooling at scale.
  • Proven delivery of large, mission-critical cooling projects from design through operations.
  • Deep hands-on knowledge of chillers, cooling towers/adiabatic units, pumps/valves, CDUs, CRAH/CRAC, economization, and advanced controls.
  • Strong vendor/OEM network and experience driving RFx, technical evaluations, and contract requirements.
  • Proficiency with CFD/thermal modeling tools, commissioning practices, and BMS/SCADA/PLC-based control strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Architecture and standards: develop reference architectures and technical standards for mechanical systems.
  • Efficiency and cost optimization: set targets for PUE, WUE, and perform TCO analyses.
  • Design, delivery, and operation: provide technical leadership from concept through commissioning and IST.
  • Vendor and industry engagement: manage OEM relationships, RFx/RFPs, and supplier negotiations.
  • Stay aligned with ASHRAE TC9.9, Uptime Institute, and local codes.

Job description

Job Description
What You’ll do
  • Architecture and standards o Develop reference architectures and technical standards for mechanical systems: air cooling (CRAC/CRAH, air-side economization), liquid cooling (CDU, cold plates, rear-door heat exchangers), and adiabatic cooling.o Develop scalable designs for hyperscale and high-density/HPC AI workloads, including redundancy, and control strategies.o Drive adoption of industry best practices aligned with ASHRAE TC9.9, Uptime Institute, and applicable local codes.
  • Efficiency and cost optimizationo Set and deliver targets for PUE, and mechanical load reduction; optimize WUE and water risk where applicable.o Lead total cost of ownership (TCO) analyses, cost modeling, and energy/capacity planning to reduce both capex and opex.o Implement control sequences and optimization (BMS/SCADA/PLC) to minimize energy without sacrificing reliability or SLAs.
  • Design, delivery, and operationso Provide technical leadership from concept through commissioning (L1–L5) and integrated systems testing (IST).o Lead global standard MEP designs, equipment selection, and CFD/thermal modeling; validate performance against design intent.o Partner with Data Center Operations on continuous improvement.
  • Vendor and industry engagemento Build and manage strategic relationships with OEMs, integrators, and critical suppliers; lead RFI/RFPs and negotiate technical requirements.o Track industry trends and emerging technologies (e.g., advanced liquid cooling, controls, materials) and develop adoption roadmaps. What you’ll bring.
