Job description

Mechanical Engineering Expert (AI Training)

About The Role

We're looking for mechanical engineering experts to help train and improve cutting-edge AI systems. Your technical knowledge will directly shape how AI understands and reasons through complex engineering problems - from fluid dynamics to structural mechanics - making a real impact on the future of intelligent systems.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. You set your schedule and work on your own terms.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10-40 hours/week
What You'll Do
  • Design Advanced Engineering Problems — Craft challenging, domain-rich problems across areas like FEA (Finite Element Analysis), heat transfer, kinematics, thermodynamics, and material science to stress-test AI reasoning.
  • Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Develop rigorous, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as benchmarks for AI learning and evaluation.
  • Audit AI-Generated Technical Content — Review AI outputs including CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards (e.g., ASME, ISO).
  • Refine AI Reasoning — Identify logical errors such as incorrect force distributions or energy conservation violations, and provide structured feedback that improves how the model thinks through engineering problems.
Who You Are
  • Pursuing or holding a Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Strong foundational knowledge in one or more core domains: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
  • Able to communicate complex physical phenomena and technical reasoning clearly in written form
  • High attention to detail - precise when checking mathematical derivations, unit conversions, and physical system constraints
  • No prior AI experience required
Nice to Have
  • Experience with data annotation, data quality, or technical evaluation workflows
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS
  • Familiarity with how large language models (LLMs) generate and process technical content
Why Join Us
  • Work on genuinely cutting-edge AI projects in collaboration with leading AI research labs
  • Fully remote and asynchronous - work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance perks: autonomy, variety, and global collaboration
  • Contribute to meaningful work that advances how AI handles real-world engineering challenges
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
