Job description

Mechanical Engineering — AI Training Specialist

What if your engineering knowledge could help shape the next generation of AI? We're looking for mechanical engineers to work with Alignerr — a company partnering with the world's leading AI research labs — to train and improve advanced AI models.

Your deep expertise in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural mechanics, and more will be used to challenge, evaluate, and refine how AI systems reason through complex engineering problems. This is a unique opportunity to apply your technical skills in a high-impact, flexible freelance role.

About The Role
  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You’ll Do
  • Design Advanced Engineering Problems — Create challenging, domain-specific problems across areas like FEA (Finite Element Analysis), heat transfer, kinematics, fluid mechanics, and material science to rigorously test AI performance.
  • Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Develop precise, step-by-step technical solutions and "golden responses" that serve as benchmarks for AI learning and evaluation.
  • Audit AI Reasoning — Evaluate AI-generated CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for technical accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards (e.g., ASME, ISO).
  • Identify and Correct Logical Errors — Spot flaws in AI reasoning — such as incorrect force distributions or energy conservation violations — and provide structured, actionable feedback to improve model accuracy.
Who You Are
  • Advanced Degree — Master's (pursuing or completed) or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Domain Expertise — Strong foundation in one or more core areas: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes.
  • Strong Technical Writer — Able to communicate complex physical phenomena and mathematical concepts clearly and concisely in written form.
  • Detail-Oriented — High precision when reviewing mathematical derivations, unit conversions, and physical system constraints.
  • No prior AI experience required — if you know engineering, we'll handle the rest.
Nice to Have
  • Prior experience with data annotation, quality evaluation, or technical review workflows
  • Familiarity with engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS
Why Join Us
  • Meaningful work — Your expertise directly improves how AI understands and applies engineering principles
  • Fully remote and flexible — Work on your schedule, from anywhere
  • Freelance autonomy — Choose your hours (10–40/week) with no micromanagement
  • Cutting-edge exposure — Get a front-row seat to how advanced large language models are trained and evaluated
  • Ongoing opportunity — Strong performers are considered for contract extensions and future projects
  • Global collaboration — Work alongside a diverse, expert community contributing to real AI research
