Job summary

Acorn Product Development is a leading product design and engineering partner with offices in multiple locations. This onsite role is based in Waltham, MA, focusing on transitioning concepts into production for electromechanical products.

The candidate will perform analyses, create detailed designs and collaborate with vendors, ID/UX teams and clients to deliver robust solutions.

Qualifications

• BSME or equivalent; MSME preferred.
• 3+ years of design and engineering analysis experience.
• Experience transitioning at least one electromechanical product from concept to production.
• Working knowledge of designing molded, sheet metal and machined components.
• Proficient with SolidWorks (Creo a plus) and documentation per ASME Y14.5.

Responsibilities

• Broaden technical knowledge breadth and depth.
• Work with clients to identify requirements and develop solutions.
• Create designs/documentation to meet objectives.
• Identify and perform mechanical engineering analyses.
• Collaborate with ID/UX teams on refined designs.
• Interface with vendors for prototyping, tooling and production.
• Test and evaluate prototypes, tooling and first articles.
• Create project and technical reports as required.
• Manage project activities.

This is an onsite position based out of our Waltham, MA office.

• BSME or equivalent (MSME preferred).
• 3+ years of design and engineering analysis experience.
• Experience transitioning at least one complex electromechanical product from early concept into production.
• Working knowledge of designing molded, sheet metal and machined components.
• Proficient with SolidWorks (Creo a plus) and preparing engineering documentation per ASME Y14.5 for production release.
• On-the-job analysis experience in at least two of the following areas:

1. Tolerance analysis
2. FEA and/or CFD
3. Strength of materials
4. Heat transfer
5. Shock and vibration

• Ability to work with teams in a fast-paced product development environment.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and certification processes.
• Hands-on performance in shop/lab skills.
• Hands on project management experience is a bonus.

RESPONSIBILITIES
